Did anyone watch this last night, it was very good ,each one showing the other where they lived when they were young,
They both got on so well , Dame Judy selling bananas down the market in Camden. Jay Blades reading Shakespeare out loud to Dame Judy was brilliant considering he couldn’t read a couple of years ago. He comes across as a very caring genuine man.

Someone said JB was too touchy feely.I thought he was very respectful to Dame JD and took her arm a lot because she is partially sighted now.You could tell she felt at ease with him and I don't imagine she suffers fools gladly or puts up with being touched by someone she doesn't trust.
And she seemed genuinely comforted when he held her hand after visiting her old family home.I thought it was a delightful programme.

This.

I loved the programme. Dame Judi Dench is a delightful Lady and Jay Blades a delightful Man. Yes it is all down to opinion. I don't know either of them personally but for me with Jay what you see is what you get, a genuine Guy. I will continue to watch the Repair shop and any other documentaries that Jay is in. Okay he may not be everyone's cup of tea but he is mine.

This goes for me too. Loved the programme smile

Judi Dench seemed very comfortable in his company, she said they have been friends for three years . I enjoyed the programme

Don’t people think it’s polite to get names right?
It’s Judi Dench

Well said, Ziplok

Well, I have to say that there are some very unkind remarks being made about Jay Blades. He seems ok to me, but of course I don’t know him other than his tv persona, as I’ve never been in his company, so am in no position to make a judgement about his character. I wonder how many of you know him personally?
With regard to what has been said by his ex wife, I really cannot comment, as I’ve not seen anything about it and certainly know nothing about it other than what has now been mentioned on this thread.

Just watched programme, thought it was excellent. I don't know Dame Judy or Jay personally but it was an enjoyable hours viewing

I’d no idea about abuse. Quite saddened.

You were not to know. Nobody did until his ex wife fled the house in a hurry.
This woman is highly respected in her field.

Sent to soon. ....into a bun fight. No wonder so many don't post on here. You couldn't make it up 🙄

Even a supposedly innocuous thread about a TV programme turns into

So you’re saying his ex wife is lying when she publicly states he abused her?

If you click on the blue link it’s all there in his ex wife’s words.

Liked the programme and thought their friendship was quite genuine. I like both of them.

I like Jay Blades very much. He has had a difficult childhood/young adult stage of life, and is now a success. He seems to be very caring and genuine.

The series with his Majesty, or Prince Charles as he was then, was lovely, it was not meant to be highbrow or whatever, just youngsters with a skill having the chance to improve, and to show off their skills to the Prince with Jay being happy to show off 'his brood' so to speak.

I recently watched the programmes made about our wonderful Olympians, Daley Thompson and Linford Christie. Their appalling treatment in the newspapers/media at the time was horrendous. I remember being so happy watching them both perform, especially the longevity and persistence of Daley, and seeing those programmes made me so very sad and upset..
These two athletes were some of GB's earliest olympians, and did not receive the same equal treatment as Seb Coe, and others, by the red tops.
I think of Jay in similar terms.

JaneJudge Mon 19-Aug-24 16:34:43

how do you know some of us don;t know him? that is a bold assertion

Vito Mon 19-Aug-24 16:31:22

Well some very strong opinions about someone none of us seems to know.
Maybe, those who opinion is that he is false are right, or maybe just maybe he is a nice warm fella, who shows his feelings by being tactile.🤷‍♀️. I enjoyed the programme.

Oreo Mon 19-Aug-24 16:18:41

I don’t like either of them so gave this programme a miss.

Georgesgran Mon 19-Aug-24 16:16:53

I think he’s a bit Marmite like Greg Wallace.
Can’t say exactly why, but not keen on either.

One of ours spent the day with Jay in a work environment. His verdict? He’s a nice bloke.

I think his tactile nature is just who he is as a person, of course I could be wrong, have never met him to have an informed opinion

Ziggy62 Mon 19-Aug-24 15:48:36

I like him. I particularly enjoyed the programme he did last month on the history of London's West end.
I also think he's incredibly brave to talk about his problems with dyslexia.
My own AC has the same condition and has been called "weird" on more than one occasion.
Being on the autistic spectrum (or neuro diverse as I'm now told is the correct term) cannot be easy for anyone. I admire the man for getting in front of a camera and find him very entertaining.
