This is one series I’ve watched twice and read all the books. I enjoyed it enormously in spite of the brutality which usually puts me off (having read the books, I couldn’t watch Game of Thrones). My favourite character was Father Beocca.

Thank you. I'll look out for that Mancjules.

Did you spot the brilliant author of the Last Kingdom books, Bernard Cornwell acting in Season 1, Episode 7?
Cornwell appears as a Saxon man.

You might enjoy this.

There is a follow on film to Kingdom - Seven King's Must Die. It sort of ties in some loose ends.

Yes it kept me alert with the different countryside scenes and the female characters were very believable strong warrior women.. and the childbirth scenes in the forest were very realistically portrayed.. phew 😮‍💨

I agree. I was completely enthralled by this series, although I gasped at the brutality in some scenes. I rationalised it by saying that's what life was like, it was very brutal during the Viking raids and occupation of Britain.

The acting was superb. Dreymon was born in Germany and has lived in Switzerland, France and the USA, and his accent reflects those influences.

I think everything about the production is first rate. Not sure I could watch it again because of the brutality. I did however watch Bolivar twice - 60 episodes - also brutal in parts, but apparently historically accurate. Superb acting, costumes and settings. I learned so much more of the history of the Spanish occupation of South America the second time which I'd missed in my first viewing.

I was confused in a scene in The Lost Kingdom where they were supposed to be in Cornwall with mountains in the background. Those scenes were filmed in Hungary. Imagine the logistics of getting a film crew, actors and all the paraphernalia to Cornwall through the usual traffic especially in the holiday season, or most seasons!

I loved The Last Kingdom books and series. My understanding of the time period was very hazy to say the least, and I've since investigated it a bit more because it was such an interesting time with so may changes.

I don’t know how i missed this series last year but oh so glad I viewed UHTRED of BABBENBURG a.k.a. Alexander Draymond.. thought his accent very clipped but sexy🙈 also liked the IRISH guy FINIAN .. know it’s not 100% historical but did take me back to school history lessons of ancient times.
Excellent series which I binge watched as, it helped me to remember who was who as many of the KINGS family names started with EDEL….confused me at times but it’s a good watch and the story lines were interesting - hard brutal times
