Strictly restarts this Saturday when it will be the pairing up of celebs and pros..... which may even be less cringe-making than usual. grin

I don't know many of this year's celebs, but nothing new to that, and no doubt I shall get hooked in as usual.

Kim19 Sat 14-Sept-24 17:04:50

Can't wait.

Looking forward to dipping in and out this year. I don’t think it’ll be a regular feature of a Saturday evening but I like to keep up with who’s doing well.
I love Claudia! Her smile is just a fantastic mood lifter.

montymops Sat 14-Sept-24 16:51:23

I shall still be watching it - I love it! I do agree about Giovanni and Faye Tozer - particularly the Lonely Goatherd dance - an all time great. I don’t know about Amanda Abington’s complaints- never liked her anyway . Pity because she was pretty good - well she thought she was- personality clash probably. I have never heard a sportsperson complain - they know what training involves- or someone like Debbie Magee who trained in ballet.

Taichinan Sat 14-Sept-24 16:49:30

I'm the same - each season I view it with a jaundiced eye, but I'm soon hooked again. I rarely know many of the so-called celebrities but it doesn't take me long to have my favourites.
With regard to the 'bullying' - how do you think they all manage to reach such a peak of perfection each week in such a short time? It can't surely be achieved with gentleness, politeness and kindness in all honesty. I watched a visiting international tai chi instructor recently - he corrected the positioning of the upper body with his hands at the same time as adjusting foot positions with his foot. It was the 'gentle art of tai chi' and there was no pressure - but just imagine if he had to get us up to a level of perfection in four days! I think the adjusting with his hands might have become pushing, pulling or shoving and the adjustment of our feet by his might just have seemed more like a kick!
Who is this Amanda thingy anyway? 😉

JuBut Sat 14-Sept-24 16:21:21

After all the carrying on, back stabbing, money grabbing, its lost its appeal, so I'm not watching it

merlotgran Sat 14-Sept-24 16:10:12

The launch show clashes with the Proms tonight so I won’t be watching but I’ll watch when the competition gets going.

Casdon Sat 14-Sept-24 16:02:25

I so hope it goes well for Amy, she’s had such a tough time and must be excited to be back.

Calendargirl

Not keen on the launch show, I don’t think I’ve watched it the last couple of years.

All the squeals and “Oh, I hoped I got Giovanni/Kai/ Johannes….”

Yeah, right!

And along with so many of us, just want to see the dances, the judging, more professional turns whilst we await the results….

Do not want to see Claudia making fatuous small talk with each couple, or the up-to-date version of Len’s Lens, or walks in the park with a bit of waltzing thrown in, and certainly not tears as we recall Granny and Grandad foxtrotting in Blackpool 50 years ago!

What a grump I sound, I know, but that is the truth.

Your reply Calendargirl, was very more entertaining than the show
🤣

I love strictly or rather used to! In recent years there have been far too many non- celebrities, reality so-called people & the like. I do not want to watch silly love islanders for blooming sake!confused

knspol Sat 14-Sept-24 13:49:22

For the last couple of years I have always recorded it and then can flick through all the boring bits eg Claudia asking every couple exactly the same questions, the practice sessions etc. I really only want to see the dancing and hear some of the judges speak - don't listen to Motsi Mabusi as she tends to agree with everybody else and is over effusive, sometimes block out Anton as he's becoming the same way.
It's all got very stale, I think they need to find a whole new concept or else stop it altogether.

mabon1 Sat 14-Sept-24 13:40:14

One does not know the pair leaving unless you make it your business to find out. A gentleman who walks his dog the same time as I do always wants to tell me but at last he's realised I prefer to wait.

SueEH Sat 14-Sept-24 13:29:08

Surely it’s getting to the end of its useful life now?

Bazza Sat 14-Sept-24 11:52:26

I used to look forward to Strictly but lost enthusiasm for it last year and hardly watched it at all, except like Dempie55 on iplayer so I could cut through all the unnecessary dross and loviness which makes me cringe. I feel the whole format needs a good shake up or viewing figures will continue to drop.

Catlover123 Sat 14-Sept-24 11:45:14

I agree about too many boring fillers which is why I record it and watch later zipping through to miss them and only watch the dancers.

2020convert Sat 14-Sept-24 11:36:17

Agree, very stale, Tessa predictable speech with predictable hand wringing action! Just wish they’d rested it this year as the “celebrities” well, aren’t! The controversy forgoing. They should just have done a celebration of twenty years showing all the best over the years. That wouldn’t happen as it’s not a money spinner. No tour revenue, no phone revenue. Can’t abide the Sunday show either. Will I watch? Probably but preferably something else will be on and it will be on catch up tv.

Carlota Sat 14-Sept-24 11:31:01

I've lost my enthusiasm, during the last series
I began to cringe. I miss Bruce Forsyth he brought the show together?

polly123 Sat 14-Sept-24 11:30:04

It's become very predictable in format and boring. There seems to be no spontaneity or variety. Just the same old...

heavenlyheath Sat 14-Sept-24 11:14:58

A lot of tv is stale nothing new same old same old presenters and all those so called botoxed, fake tanned celebreties (clones of one another)

Dempie55 Sat 14-Sept-24 11:10:30

As others have said, way too much padding. I never watch it live, but go to IPlayer where I can fast forward through the fluff and just watch the dances. Never watch the “Sunday” show.

Millie22 Sat 14-Sept-24 11:08:31

I'll watch it but I feel it's a bit tainted.

Shall miss Gio as he was such a special part of it especially the year he danced with Rose.

Indigo8 Thu 12-Sept-24 19:16:34

I was finding the forced, enthusiastic, jolliness and the "we all love each and we'll be friends forever" really false and yukky.
And that was before the revelations came tumbling out.

Like other posters, I am really only interested in the dances and not stuff like the pros enjoying Sunday lunch with nan and all the family in Scunthorpe. I know they have to change the settings etc. and as most of it was live they needed time but still.

I also disliked the way they insisted that the dance off was Sunday evening when everybody knew it was after the show on Saturday.

I expect these elements will still be there and it will as close to the mixture as before as they can make it.

Desdemona Thu 12-Sept-24 18:51:20

It is a shame Giovanni has gone, I wonder if the Italian version will be available on YouTube?

GrannyGravy13 Thu 12-Sept-24 15:11:00

AreWeThereYet

I don't watch Strictly anymore but I do eventually catch up with the dances on YouTube, as they're all I'm interested in really.

Last week I spent an hour watching Giovanni dance with Faye Tozer, which were some of my all time favourite dances.

Giovanni is dancing in the Italian version this year.

nanaK54 Thu 12-Sept-24 15:09:17

I will be watching!
