Well, I eat fish.

These fish are returned but I wondered how many times some of the larger fish had been caught and returned.

"Oh, not again! I should have known that was bait!"

Glad I m not the only one Gillycats people would go mad if someone hooked their dog or cat or budgie !!!

Fishermen who abide by the rules are helping fish not harming them.
DH has a full fish first aid kit and keeps the waters clean etc.
Carp are always released.

I love this programme. It's the relationship between the two men (and Ted) that is so endearing. It would be just as good if they didn't fish, just walking around the country chatting and laughing.

Fishing isn’t cruel if fishermen abide by the rules of the fishery, or the unwritten code of all responsible anglers, knotless landing nets kept scrupulously clean between sessions, barbless hooks (no barb means the fish has a better than even chance of throwing the hook and its quicker and easier to remove if you do land it), handling fish with wet hands and returning them to the water as quickly as possible “And….away!”😁. And leave nothing behind you but your footprints in the grass.

If your think angling is cruel, hope you never see a rainbow trout that a cormorant has found too big to swallow and decided to rip large pieces out of its side instead, leaving it to die horribly. This is by no means uncommon.
