Viewed this but turned off … he’s so self indulgent..says it was an unwise decision but IMO it was an inappropriate decision and really feel for his wife and girls.. what do others think?

Anniebach Sat 05-Oct-24 09:40:42

I am pleased his family are with him, I don’t want to think of
anyone being cut off from such a large of their lives

Iam64 Fri 04-Oct-24 13:34:15

Thanks Rosie - I should have said the legal age of consent is 16 and has been since 2001.
The general view when considering exploitation was a max 7 year age gap between youngest and older people involved

Rosie51 Thu 03-Oct-24 22:49:18

I think you forgot to put the '16' in Iam64. Many will assume PS started the sexual relationship with the runner once he had his 16th birthday, since he says inappropriate but not illegal.

Iam64 Thu 03-Oct-24 21:00:06

No surprise that I agree with Galaxy and a Doodledog.

I disagree with the view that the criticism of PS is down to homophobia, if he’d met my 15 year old daughter via her love and skills in drama, maintained contact and offered to support a tv career then begun a sexual relationship with her ‘when it became legal’ - I’d have been furious. As was the young man’s mother in the PS case

By the way, there’s been reference here to age 18. The legal age for consent in gay relationships has been since 08.01.2001. PS says inappropriate but not illegal

Galaxy

I wouldnt have any time for a 60 year old man who had a relationship with a girl who he had first met at 15, then had a relationship with at 18, whilst in a position of power over her either. I dislike him even more for using the accusation of homophobia in this way, it's really offensive towards the majority of gay men who dont do this.

I agree, Galaxy, and I can't help thinking that after the situation has been explained over and over, those who persist in saying it is homophobia that is behind this are being disingenuous.

Absolutely - grooming and abuse of power is still the same, no matter what.

Anniebach Thu 03-Oct-24 16:44:31

Was the person Schofield was involved with 18 years old ?

Had he been involved in previous relationships, this puzzles me,

Polwal Thu 03-Oct-24 16:29:31

I totally agree. If he'd had an affair with a younger woman....as he says it wouldnt have been frowned upon. They were both adults. There are plenty on TV and off TV who have had affairs. I'm not saying it's right and I'm not saying their families haven't suffered (I have been subjected to an affair) -but I'm not on TV, no paps followed me (paps have a lot to answer to in getting their stories, and they highlighted the story too much which put the families in the spotlight.

Anniebach Thu 03-Oct-24 16:11:38

Giovanni and Amanda Abb)ngdon , I wasn’t speaking of individual posters, just the change in GransNet threads

Doodledog Thu 03-Oct-24 15:59:32

I have never commented on Strictly. I don't watch it and don't comment on tv things I haven't seen.

Galaxy Thu 03-Oct-24 15:10:31

Was it the same people though annie? I for one have never called Amanda A mentally ill, and I would be surprised if Doodle and Iam64 had done so, but they can obviously speak for themselves.
I think all that shows is that some people have a view on AA and some people have a view on PS, it's not double standards if it's different people.

Kate1949 Thu 03-Oct-24 15:01:34

Couldn't PS have found a partner nearer his own age? Why such a young one?

I agree icanhandghemback I didn’t make my views clear sorry, i was really upset the way this woman was spoken of on this forum . He was applauded and praised .

Yes, I don't get it either. Thank you for clarifying.

MissAdventure

I've no problem with Schofield.

Older men having younger lovers isn't unheard of.

He's not the first, and won't be the last.

Are you ok?

Having a younger lover by 40 years is ok?

He had his eye on him since he was 15, he gave him special opportunities.

He is a groomer, paedophile and narcissist.

Surely though, Anniebach, you can push for more commitment without swearing, verbal bullying and harassment; those allegations were found to be true. Such behaviour has no place in a working environment...or anywhere else to be honest.

I am referring to the threads when the professional dancer was accused of bullying by the celebrity, the BBC has now announced he was guilty of some of the accusations, they have not shown their evidence to the public, no thread demanding the public have a right to know
The BBC have said the professional was guilty of swearing during rehearsals and asking/pushing for more commitment.

He was found innocent of physically assaulting his partner.

Really, he only asked/pushed for more commitment ? seems rather insignificant to offer a public apology to the celebrity
for such

tickingbird Thu 03-Oct-24 14:04:24

He was cleared of the majority of the allegations. His career in the UK appears to be over so job done I suppose. AA has been giving interviews all the way through the investigation but GP hasn’t. Maybe we will hear his side of the story at some point.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 03-Oct-24 13:46:10

Iam64

It’s easier to cry witch-hunt than accept the extent of the child sexual abuse and exploitation that lives amongst us

Very true and very sad.

There are no threads demanding the right to know about PS, or HE for that matter.

Threads discussing what is in the public domain, yes. But I don't think I've seen any demanding the public's right to know about Schofield. This one is about his decision to go public with his version of events, not about our right to know anything.

I'm not sure of your point. More than one dancer on Strictly has left after allegations. No charges doesn't mean they didn't do it. It is more likely that they resigned rather than be found guilty.
