Just watched the first episode (Disney Plus.) Oh Joy!! I haven’t laughed so much in ages.

Great casting and the attention to detail is spot on. OK the language is a bit ripe but it would be wrong to sanitise a Jilly bonkbuster. Welcome to Rutshire! 😂

The weather forecast may be lousy but my weekend is sorted.!!

I have lusted after Rupert Campbell Black for over 50 years.

Really looking forward to binging this 🩷👍🏻

Not for me.
I find Jilly Cooper irritating. And her books twaddle.
But that’s just me.

Loved Jilly Cooper's books - she even named one after me - not sure whether I would enjoy this after having read the books.

I don’t think you’d be disappointed, kitty. 😂

I think Aiden Turner should swap rolls with Alex Hassell. He’d make a much better Rupert.

This Rupert is definitely not my Rupert, but I enjoyed the show.

I bought the paperback when I was in Sainsbury yesterday - pretty chunky, innit? It'll keep me quiet for a bit. I got started on Jilly Cooper donkey's years ago when I went through the Bella, Octavia, Prudence, etc series.

I loved Jilly Cooper's books, particularly the acerbic, funny ones about class, ect. She is a wonderful force of nature & still so attractive. 'The Rivals' series' appears true to the book but I agree that Aiden Turner should have been the leading male. Also, I don't think Emily Attack should have been cast in this production; she is too end of the pier for me.🤔

I've never read one but I do like Jilly Cooper and her refreshingly witty take on life despite having been so hurt by her roving husband.. she is a very attractive appealing woman..

I devoured all the Rivals, Riders, etc series back in the day. I think enough water has gone under the bridge for me to be able to enjoy a film/tv version. I'll see if I can access it.

Thanks Merlotgran going to binge watch this tomorrow afternoon. Hope the grandchildren don’t come for a visit. 🤭

I loved Riders, Rivals and her earlier books. So I was looking forward to seeing this, I'm 3 episodes in, really liking it. It's all a bit tongue in cheek, and fun. I agree the actor cast as Rupert Campbell - Black is not how I imagined him to be, but he's growing on me. I saw today he's in the mix for James Bond as well.

Sorry I just don’t like it at all. The leading man is anything but attractive. Aiden Turner would have been a better choice. DH is enjoying it though.

Saw a bit today and found it rather entertaining.

I always thought she was a bit up herself as they say here but still, finny lady.

merlotgran Sat 26-Oct-24 10:37:19

It finishes on a cliffhanger so another series?

Pleeeeease??

I agree that the actor playing Rupert is not the blond person I had imagined from the books, and I don't even find him attractive! I don't subscribe to the Disney+ channel so probably won't bother to pay to watch. I enjoyed the books when younger.
