It’s not the same without Perez. I wasn’t previously a fan of Tosh but I think the character has matured and I like her much more now. My fave policeman of all time however is George Gently. I still watch Shetland for the scenery and whilst bad language doesn’t offend me, sometimes I just like to watch something that doesn’t have that.

New series of Shetland
(152 Posts)The new series of Shetland starts on November 6th at 21.00 on BBC1 and iPlayer. Ian Hart and Vincent Regan, both well kent faces are in it, as well as the returning Ashley Jensen (Ruth), Alison O’Donnell (Tosh), Steven Robertson (Sandy) and Lewis Howden (Billy).
I was not a fan of the previous series so am hoping for both an improved storyline and acting this time.
Much prefer Ellis,
"Oooohhh! Sandy" isn't that a song from Grease the musical?
Get lost Olivia Newton Whatyerface! 🤭
SANDY!!!💞

I'd like to see more of Sandy and hear his lovely accent.
Yes Allira, me too. Sandy sure is an intriguing character & played beautifully by the actor.
He seems very buttoned-up & lacking in confidence. Yet he doesn't miss anything! He's very perceptive & a far more interesting, deeper character than either of the two slightly nimby irritating leads which seems at odds & rather unbalanced to me. 🤔
💖 Sandy!!
I didn’t like the new woman much, but I’ll stick with it.

I don't find the actress playing Tosh credible. Did watch start of new series but it didn't seem go hold my attention. Do think the two actresses could be mother and daughter they have same mouth. Much prefer the originals
👌👍👏🌺 & one for luck 🦄
I agree, it is all a matter of opinion, and we are all entitled to our opinions.
I love Ellis too, a brilliant portrayal of a strong woman. I also liked Whitstable Pearl, S1 especially, S2 seemed to have lost the plot somehow.
It's all a matter of opinion and there are no opinions more valid than others. Some of us like these characters and the actresses involved and others don't. We are all entitled to state our opinions. A poster saying they feel like the anti christ is just absurd

I love the Shetland detective series, and look forward to, and savour each one. Yes, Jimmy Perez was so very watchable - but so miserable, and he (Henshall) wanted to go.
I love the two female leads, they complement each other wonderfully. Both women have had their personal challenges, and have come out the other side more rounded. It is wonderful that we have a major drama with two female leads, and it really surprises me that so many posters on here are so insulting and derogatory about the women and the characters they play. It is upsetting.
I saw the same in the comments about Anna Maxwell Martin over the last couple of days. I think she is amazing too. I have not watched the current ITV series, but she was wonderful in Ludwig, and Motherland is a masterclass by all the female characters in it. I have rewatched Ludwig , and I am really looking forward to S2.
I like watching dramas with characters that are believable, and that includes women/female characters who look like normal people that we meet in daily life.

Posters seem to be criticising the characters portrayed. Do either of the characters as portrayed in the latest script deserve to be Inspector? I doubt it.
Surely that is valid criticism and what many reviewers of productions do all the time?
An actor can only do so much with a script and storyline.

Has anyone seen the new series on Channel 5 called Ellis.. now there's a wonderfully charismatic actress.. Sharon D Clarke.. she has the most amazing sculpted face and presence..
and the storylines are great..
She'd make me quake in my boots if she was interviewing me. I'd probably confess to anything just to get away from her!

Yes, we're enjoying it. She is very good and her sidekick is coming into his own too.
We like the fact that each episode is a complete story.

I was just going to recommend "Ellis" too - two episodes in, well worth a catch up. You're right about her commanding and dignified presence.

I don't understand why a poster can make a considered criticism about an actor or a poor-quality product or even a spoilt child, ect, without criticism. Yet, God forbid you if you post a comment validly criticising a lead actress for her lack of impact & suitability in a beloved TV role because you suddenly become the Anti-Christ. Ridiculous. 🤔
Hear hear charley68. My thoughts exactly.

Hear, hear pascal30 Yes bring back Douglas in order to save the program
The two women together are just not cutting the mustard I'm afraid!
They both seem very needy, touchy & whiny. Shetland has lost its teeth & I just can't watch those drippy twit, simpering actresses anymore.
Ps, Pardon my drippy, twit, simpering rant! 🥴
It's a gentle series with gorgeous locations.. and although I like Tosh she and the other policewoman often don't appear to have had any serious training.. it really needs Douglas Henshall back..
Well I just watched episode one and enjoyed it so much I went to the BBC
i- player to see the next one. Drat! Only the first one available. No binge for me. Och!
The two women are very convincing together I thought.
Boz
It's just about watchable on a winter's evening, but not the same with out Henshall; a first-class actor who elevated the series.
Couldn't have put better myself Boz.
Shetland is now unwatchable with those 2 drippy women leading the investigations! Bring back Perezl 😫

I viewed last night but felt it lacked a lot in terms of watcablity value . Ashley Jensen is a good actor however this series is definitely not going to be on my to do list in future 🥲
