Sam West just posted about the death of his father on twitter. Such a good actor and I loved his canal boat trips with Prunella. Sadly missed

A family of great actors, Timothy, Prunella and Sam. RIP Timothy. xx

I think I am right in saying the Timothy's father was the actor
Lockwood West who appeared in over 30 films. Sam is, I think,
the third generation of actors.

Yes, he is the son of Lockwood West. I think they are vaguely related to Margaret Lockwood as well.

I am a great fan of Samuel West.

So very sad to hear this news today. It did seem like Prue would be the first to go. My heart goes out to her. Such a devoted couple.

RIP Timothy 💐

Wonderful actor and a devoted husband. How sad for his family, especially Prunella. RIP.

OK, it's on there now, but wasn't half an hour ago!

granfromafar Wed 13-Nov-24 15:20:16

I was greatly saddened to hear this news too, and like mae13, assumed that his beloved Prunella would go first. It doesn't seem to be on the BBC news website, which seems odd, as I heard it on BBC news on the radio earlier.

A wonderful, talented actor RIP

Grandmabatty Wed 13-Nov-24 14:30:20

No worries Jennifer. I think he deserves more than one thread.

Primrose53 Wed 13-Nov-24 14:25:51

Very sorry to hear this. Their love for each other was very evident and she depended on him so much in recent years due to her dementia. RIP Timothy.

I'll re-post this on here.

Oh dear, I'm sorry to hear this.

A very good actor and I loved his canal journeys with his wife Prunella Scales.
What will happen to her now, I wonder?

RIP Timothy West.

JenniferEccles Wed 13-Nov-24 13:59:52

Sorry Grandmabatty I have just found your thread.
I started one after not seeing anything under Chats or Politics but I forgot to look in the obvious place of TV!

Loved the canal boat trips, he seemed so gentle and understanding with his wife Prunella.

Shelflife Wed 13-Nov-24 12:15:10

So sad to learn this , prunella now without her devoted and caring husband .

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Wed 13-Nov-24 12:14:57

…. in 2023 West published a memoir, Pru & Me, about their life together.

“We have exactly the same conversation every day of the week and it’s something I never tire of. Repetition doesn’t really exist in Pru’s world and the look on her face when she enters the room and sees me sitting there on the sofa waiting for her makes me realise just how much I love her,” he said.

How sad, I’ve enjoyed the canal boat programmes.

RosiesMaw2 Wed 13-Nov-24 11:51:28

Very sad to hear this.
A Titan of the stage and a wonderful and tirelessly caring partner to his wife, Prunella.
Sad news

Moonwatcher1904 Wed 13-Nov-24 11:51:10

Here’s the X/Twitter post- I hadn’t realised they’d been married for 61 years.

mae13 Wed 13-Nov-24 11:44:56

I truly thought Prunella would be the one to go first. So sad.
I remember hin in "Brass" as the grasping mill owner. Magnificent. And only a couple of months ago he popped up in J B Priestley's "When We Are Married", also with Prunella.

So much younger then.

Caring is erroneous; very hard on an elderly person caring for an elderly relative. The death of a carer before the cared is quite common.

mamaa Wed 13-Nov-24 11:39:26

Yes he was 90- I’d ironically just started rewatching their canal journeys- channel U/Yesterday- .
I too wonder how Pru will take the news, they did appear to be very devoted to one another.
Another great actor gone, not many of their generation left. RIP sad

Indigo8 Wed 13-Nov-24 11:36:50

He was a talented actor and his gentle, kindness to Prunella Scales was evident in the canal journey programmes.

It is so sad that Pru, who was a fine actor in her own right, should be left with her dementia without her loving husband.sad

Jaxjacky Wed 13-Nov-24 11:24:23

Oh no! He seemed such a gentle man, I too loved the canal trips, poor Prue.
RIP

Kate1949 Wed 13-Nov-24 11:23:37

RIP Timothy. We loved his canal programmes with Pru. We saw them once having a cuppa in the cafe at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford.

Calendargirl Wed 13-Nov-24 11:23:05

I think he had his 90th birthday recently. Haven’t looked it up, I may be wrong about that.
