Sam West just posted about the death of his father on twitter. Such a good actor and I loved his canal boat trips with Prunella. Sadly missed

I hope they repeat the radio play “Crisp and Even, Brightly” in his honour. (You may be able to get it on YouTube). He plays King Wenceslas, and it is a hoot. He was so versatile.

I had a look and was delighted to find this on You Tube. A magnificent performance.

It annoyed me to see on LBC that he was referred to as ‘ Corrie actor’!

He came to our village with a friend [I can't remember who] and gave a wonderful performance at our school hall. A lovely voice - you could hear every word clearly!!!

Poor Prunella must be devastated and maybe with her dementia not fully understanding. He was devoted to her and looked after her so well.
So sad, both were wonderful actors.

Caring is erroneous; very hard on an elderly person caring for an elderly relative. The death of a carer before the cared is quite common.

Yes, there have been examples in our family of the carer dying before the caree.

Very sad news. I am also a fan of the canal series. Watching it will be even more poignant now.

He seemed a lovely gentleman, such a good actor, will be missed by his wife I’m sure.

GrauntyHelen Thu 14-Nov-24 15:09:23

As is so often the case the carer goes before the cared for

Such a shame, and poor Prunella. I loved their canal boat programmes.

A family of great actors, Timothy, Prunella and Sam. RIP Timothy. xx

I think I am right in saying the Timothy's father was the actor
Lockwood West who appeared in over 30 films. Sam is, I think,
the third generation of actors.

Yes, he is the son of Lockwood West. I think they are vaguely related to Margaret Lockwood as well.

I am a great fan of Samuel West.

Lockwood was on his mother's side, all of them related to the architect Henry Francis Lockwood, but all the Victorian Lockwoods had big families. Coincidentally I sat down on sunday evening and watched an episode of canal journeys where they were in Ireland and looking at Timothy's links to Ireland, which were from his mother's side of the family, she too was an actress Olive Carleton-Crowe, so very much in the blood

Saw this news. Very sad. I am a fan of the bbc programme Doctors which finishes today for good unfortunately. Who was in yesterday's episode - none other than Timothy West. I didn't know til I watched it but I thought it was quite poignant

So sad for the family.
Sadly from working with the elderly not unusual for the carer to go first, always heartbreaking.
He always came across as a nice man.
RIP lovely man.

Yes. that’s what happened to my parents sad

This news brought tears to my eyes.My late husband loved watching Canal Journeys with me.It must ave been filmed at the start of her dementia and he was so patient with her.

He was an absolutely fantastic actor, so talented. He wasn’t attention seeking like so many young celebrities these days. He looked after his wife Prunella so devotedly, and it’s so sad she’s now left alone struggling with dementia.

RIP Timothy West.

I think he does Grandmabatty*
A superb actor and a lovely man too by all accounts.

An amazing actor, and a wonderful husband to Prunella. I too was sure she would go first, but we've had 2 cases among close friends, where the 'carer' went first, perhaps due in part to the exhaustion and emotional, mental and physical demands.

I met him a few times when he was playing in Leicester- but the one I shall remember forever, is hearing Prunella's voice calling to one of the teenage children- I knew immediately who she was before turning round. In the 80s, waiting for the TGV train to Paris at a small station in Eastern France- she and Timothy and the children, and no one else on the platform, very early one morning.

I wanted to say hello, but they looked so happy to be themselves and totally incognito- I kept quiet and pretended I didn't know.

He appeared in the Doctors programme this afternoon.

Just got back from having an eye test and DH told me as soon as I’d got in. We both loved his canal programme and feel so sad to hear this.
