Watched this the other night on Film4. It was deservedly Oscar nominated as a foreign language film (a lot of the dialogue is Irish) but it missed out to All Quiet on the Western Front. Wouldn’t recommend it if anyone’s feeling sad; it’s a typical bitter sweet rite of passage film, but, for a low budget film it’s faultless. It’s basically about a young girl who leaves her dysfunctional family because her mother is having another baby and spends the summer on a farm with a distant relative and her husband and how the relationship develops. It’s quite lovely.

@Maybee - your description obviously couldn't be bettered or expanded upon in any way by @Davids! Thanks for the viewing suggestion.

Beautiful film, based on a beautiful little book “Foster”, by Claire Keegan. I happen to be reading it at the moment.
