Wallace and Gromit Sitting Room.

I just love this Christmas scene that precedes the BBC News and probably other programmes as well.

An old fashioned sitting room ready for Christmas, with a good fire burning, paper chains hanging from the picture rails, comfy seating and lamps lit.

Makes me think of years gone by and nostalgic for it all, although our home didn’t look quite as cosy as that idyllic scene.

How true! Yes I guess that’s the reason.

Bazza

I thought exactly the same thing Calendargirl but can’t quite figure out why I find it so appealing!

It looks cosy, safe, simple, traditional.

How we like to imagine Christmas really is (or was).

Then reality hits and comes along and spoils it all (especially when the News follows).

sad

Calendargirl, I just adore it as well. I was so excited the first time I saw it and rewound it to show my husband!

No it won’t.

Who is doing the voice for Wallace?

A voice actor called Ben Whitehead is doing it. He sounds just like Peter Sallis - it's amazing!

I looked these up as they are traditional in the Philippines where we now have family connections.

They are so lightweight and dainty - and really easy!

MissAdventure Mon 09-Dec-24 11:06:30

I love the youtube crafts. smile

I have made paperchains recently.
I sliced paper into strips and glued them.
I also made some (easy) paper stars:

A friend bought some paper chains to make with her little GD.

She said they don’t have the sticky ends you lick, she was having to use prit stick to hold them together.

MissAdventure Mon 09-Dec-24 09:33:06

They tasted horrible, the paper chains.
We were easily pleased; I can remember being almost beside myself with glee when the decorations were got out (again!!)

Allsorts Mon 09-Dec-24 07:10:51

Whatever happened to paper chains, it kept us busy for hours.
Love Wallace and Gromit but has anyone seen the funky Pigeon Advert, it great.

I have antimacassars on my three piece suite!

Now they are called chairbacks.

I am obviously a trendsetter, along with W&G.

I think it’s time that antimacassars made a come back.🤭

Have just seen the Wallace and Grommit advert, love the set, including the mugs, reminds me of Grandma's sitting room, warm and cosy. Mind you my granddaughter said the same about mine, what a compliment. No floral sofas though. Looking forward to seeing it Christmas Day.

😄

NotSpaghetti Sun 08-Dec-24 17:31:58

Oreo I know I easily get fixated on details! grin.

I have had some great electricians BTW...

The first electrician moved my new consumer box back about 8cms from the old one (which wasn't so tall) so you can't see it from downstairs and then kindly turned all my kitchen pendant light fittings round so the screw in the fittings were all facing in the same direction.

Then, (about two weeks ago) my electrician lined up all the screw heads beautifully in my new switches and sockets upstairs. I was SO pleased. 🥰

I loved peepo, and the jolly postman 🙂

I don't know if I've seen the W&G sitting room, but my favourite book for babies and toddlers is Peepo!, which is full of scenes from wartime. My mum was a small child in the war, so it is far from my own experience never mind that of my children, but there is something comforting about the illustrations - maybe because they are seen through they eyes of a baby in his cot, not the adults.

Yes. I love that one, too. But my favourite is Lucy and Tom’s Christmas. I’ll dig it out in a bit. It’s in the Christmas books box which I couldn’t find last year but discovered recently.

MissAdventure Sun 08-Dec-24 17:15:19

Thank you. tchwink

Oreo Sun 08-Dec-24 17:11:16

It’s on Christmas Day but don’t know what time, I think I’ll record it.
The Christmas Eve ghost story on BBC1 is a Mark Gattis adaptation of the short story by E Nesbitt called Man -sized In Marble, tho the title may be changed by Gatiss. It’s a good short story and all her spooky stories , or most of them at any rate, are worth reading, just perfect for these Winter nights.
If you have a Kindle then I noticed the other day you can buy the lot for 80p!

I'm OK with mugs but they are just too white.
It looks (to me) as though someone has superimposed them.

I can't take my eyes off them grin

Now, lay back on that leather sofa and let Dr Oreo take away your fear of white tea mugs!🤪 Tell me the first time you saw one and how it affected you.

Tbh I hadn’t even noticed the colour of the mugs and have seen that W and G snippet a lot.Intriguing.

Doodledog Sun 08-Dec-24 16:58:28

I like W&G. Depending on the time, I might watch it on Christmas Day, or will catch it at some point over the holidays.

We have a 'no TV on before 8.00pm' rule on Christmas Day, and I assume that W&G will be on earlier, as it is suitable for children?

MissAdventure Sun 08-Dec-24 16:54:46

Is the new film on Christmas day, did someone say? smile
I've never yet watched a whole film, just snippets, but I'll be watching the christmas one.

The bits I've seen of the other ones really made me laugh.
