I never watched this when it was aired - only ever saw bits of it on Gogglebox.

However, I finally gave in to all the hype and have watched the box set on iplayer.

Apart from Pam & Mick, I don't really find any of the other characters either particularly likeable, or particularly interesting. I don't hate it but I can think of a lot more programmes I'd rather watch.

Are there any diehard fans on here? I'm sure I must be in the minority given all the fuss about the Christmas programme.

Never watched it so don’t get the hype! I don’t watch Strictly either. I do find it slightly irritating when a programme attracts loads of media hype, is actually on the news sometimes. Like it’s taken for granted that everyone watches it. I did love Wallace and Gromit though!

Yes the invention of mobile phones has ruined dramatic endings a little.

Watched the finale. Brilliant
Was overseas when it 1 st started so I’m happily on series 1 ~ & now doing 1 episode a day 👍
Can’t believe nothing was made of the Harrods comment all those years ago !

I love the show and rate it up there with Only Fools and Horses in the best ever comedy stakes, BUT my criticism of the last show is that I found the Gwen/Dave Coaches romance totally unbelievable, especially when he called her one of his nicknames he always called Ness - Sugar tits!!! I also found it very unrealistic when they were chasing to the docks, that no-one thought of phoning Nessa!!! Apart from those, everything else was just brilliant!

Well then I cannot possibly be a chav. I only drink White Lightning.

It's still cider, innit?

It was well worth waiting for and did not disappoint! A fitting end to a well loved series.

I'm just picturing hordes of grannies, with their jogging buttons showing their knickers, in hoodies, slumped in front of the TV, with the Nike Air Max trainers up on the coffee tables.

I was working abroad when the series was on so never saw it. On return to the UK I started watching on Iplayer and was hooked from the start, this last episode was brilliant, funny, yet sad, the perfect last episode.

I'd describe that wedding dress as chavvy
I know I'm a SNOB but I still loved it - it was just right! 😂

MissAdventure Fri 27-Dec-24 14:45:51

grin chavtastic!

Allira Fri 27-Dec-24 14:44:45

Chav definition:

"The term is used to describe an anti-social lower-class youth dressed in sportswear"

Oh dear, I'm not a youth any longer.
I might have a pair of trainers somewhere.

MissAdventure Fri 27-Dec-24 14:42:58

I think you're still a chav, even if you're posh.

You'd have to check with with the experts on here, I guess.

Allira Fri 27-Dec-24 14:41:04

MissAdventure

It's just a made up word - a bit like SNOB. smile

Or POSH

Can I be a Posh Chav, is that possible?

Allira Fri 27-Dec-24 14:39:57

Can't bear the expression Chav - what exactly does it mean anyway? Sounds snobbish and nasty.

So how would you feel if you're referred to as the very lowest common denominator?
What do you think that poster meant?
I took it she thought she was othering us and thought we were all inferior to her.

I thought it meant Chatham Average

MissAdventure Fri 27-Dec-24 14:31:35

Council Housed And Violent, I think.

Grunty Fri 27-Dec-24 14:29:02

It's a term used by people who think that they're better bred, more sophisticated, better educated and more erudite than the people they're describing; without realising that their usage of the term actually highlights their own chavviness. HTH?

Mollygo Fri 27-Dec-24 14:28:05

Wow! just WOW!

You’re right Annuebach, it’s the people who watch superficially without taking time to understand the subtleties who are the real losers here. First rate comedy writing and observation of human behaviour is rare, but if you are a G&S fan you see it in abundance.

These two posts must share the award for the smuggest, most self-admiring, posts of 2024.

Very well said both!
