I never watched this when it was aired - only ever saw bits of it on Gogglebox.

However, I finally gave in to all the hype and have watched the box set on iplayer.

Apart from Pam & Mick, I don't really find any of the other characters either particularly likeable, or particularly interesting. I don't hate it but I can think of a lot more programmes I'd rather watch.

Are there any diehard fans on here? I'm sure I must be in the minority given all the fuss about the Christmas programme.

^So many funny moments, the bit about Hale and Pace set me off laughing but that passed over the heads of the younger ones.^

I've often wondered over the years if Ruth and James asked permission of the high-profile people they worked into their stories about Nessa's "past history."
Hale and Pace were new to me this year but I'm thinking of previous episodes with John Prescott, plus David Blunkett (and "his bitch").
So deadpan, so funny, but so near the edge 😂

Yes, John Prescott gave it his seal of approval. 😀

Not forgetting Mohammed Al Fayed.

No idea whether they seek permission, I would think some of those mentioned would be glad that anyone remembered them!

Yes I've often thought they'd be quite proud of the name check 🤣

Anniebach Thu 26-Dec-24 18:25:58

John Prescott knew

John Prescott did a cameo in Nessa and Dave's non wedding.

No idea whether they seek permission, I would think some of those mentioned would be glad that anyone remembered them!

Anything with the unfunny James Corden is obviously directed towards the very lowest common denominator......

Yeah, luv, we're all chavs.
Unlike you of course.

Along with the other 12.2 million chavs - and still counting!

We're all different. Pam is my least favourite character but then Alison Steadman is my least favourite character in anything.

You see, I always think Pam has a touch of the Hyacinth Bouquet about her.
The episode with the towels was very funny.

Alison Steadman is just superb.

It was tidy.
Babs03 well said!

Mind you, they enjoyed it too.

Apparently they had to keep one of the actors hidden when they weren't actually filming their scenes.
I won't say which one in case some people haven't watched it yet 😁

Neil the baby singing of the Beatles song ‘Blackbird’ was superb
Be lovely to hear more of him

I agree, he's a superb musician and that rendition was so moving. Loved the rest of the episode too. As there are 2 West Ham supporters in our family, the lads on the stag wearing those shirts made it memorable, even if Gavin had a Spurs badge on his! I read that Matthew Horne is a Spurs fan, so that would explain that.

I believe he was on the voice.

He should go far - it was superb!!

Yes that was lovely.

Tried it at the start way back in 2007 on the recommendation of DD, but soon gave up.
Watched the finale so I’d know what to say if she asked me, but I don't feel I’ve missed much.
Strange really because I like James Corden and Alison Steadman.
A finale would be a good idea for several series IMO, but if the viewing figures are high, who’s to say there won’t be one more as kittylester said.

kittylester Thu 26-Dec-24 15:15:26

There will have to be one mire, won't there?

Exactly!

It must be lovely to be so sure that you set the standard and that your judgment is far superior to most of the rest of the country.

Thanks to iPlayer it’s now 12.3 million +1.

Cracking!

James Corden was superb and hilarious when we saw him in One Man Two Guvnors.

We thought so too, Kate.
