A new series of Strike begins next Monday on BBC 1 at 9pm, I am looking forward to it.

I have binge watched all of it, and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Tom Burke and Holliday Grainger are a delight. There are tantalizing glimpses of their unspoken feelings throughout. They are just perfect for their parts, especially Holly.

I did not like the book, it should have had drastic editing, but this TV version has been skilfully done.

Can’t wait for the latest book, due next year.

What a shame I love strike and was so looking forward to it but this isn’t doing it for me one bit

Changed over to Christmas on the Farm

So much more uplifting.

BlueBelle Tue 17-Dec-24 22:07:45

Yes she does

Doesn't Holliday look gorgeous with that black wig and the scarlet lippy!

I would give it 6 out of 10. Disappointed, but I will no doubt continue watching.

I didn’t enjoy the book as much as the others, with pages of internet chat, but the tv adaptation is easier to follow and I love the actors playing Strike and Robin. More sexual frisson than in the book.

Just finished watching all 4 episodes on iplayer. After a very confusing start it gathers pace and the last 20 minutes is very exciting and emotional. Keep going !!

Diggingdoris Tue 17-Dec-24 16:12:30

I enjoyed the previous series, but this one had me confused and disappointed. DH thought it was rubbish so I'll have to re-watch on iplayer to see if I understand it on a second viewing.

Ilovedogs22 Tue 17-Dec-24 12:02:40

Ohhh, I watched for about 5 mins before turning over to watch good old Vera!
The story line of Strike & drippy Robin makes my teeth itch.
It was brilliant but now it is too centred on Robin & her silly twittering.🤔

Four episodes available on BBC IPlayer. I watched the first but not sure I’ll carry on. Didn’t engage me.

Greyduster Tue 17-Dec-24 09:18:14

I was looking forward to this, but it’s the first one of the Strike series that didn’t hold my attention at all. I wandered off to do something else and left it playing to itself.

I gave up on the book but will be interested to see how this pans out on tv.

Clawdy Tue 17-Dec-24 09:06:08

Not great, but will keep watching, think it will get better. That art class scene was interesting!

Calendargirl Tue 17-Dec-24 07:14:44

If I hadn’t read the book, I think I might have found it hard to follow, for example, Robin going to the art class. 🤷‍♀️

I thought the way they did the on line conversations worked well, better than the book.

Digressing from the plot, I know in the books Strike is always trying (and often failing) to lose a bit of weight, but he looks positively svelte in some of the scenes tonight.

I always felt the way he was described in the books meant that, certainly in the earlier ones, he resembled Robbie Coltrane in ‘Cracker’, more than the gorgeous Tom Burke.

Still had no trouble getting the girls though!

cornergran Tue 17-Dec-24 07:09:12

We seem to be against the tide here, we both loved it. It’s the only Strike book we haven’t read and so had no preconceptions

Astitchintime Tue 17-Dec-24 06:58:47

OH has read the book ......... might need to gag him when we watch part 2 tonight! hmm

BlueBelle Tue 17-Dec-24 06:52:31

I too love the characters didn’t love the storyline ….so far

JamesandJon33 Tue 17-Dec-24 06:05:54

Was it really very dark and sort of smoky? The filming ,I mean. Bit of a strain sometimes. Or was it my new glasses.

But I do love Tom Burke and Holly Grainger. Perfect in the roles.
I haven’t read this book so all new to me.

Charleygirl5 Mon 16-Dec-24 23:00:11

I also did not enjoy it- too weird for me.

I didn’t notice any darkness Allira but didn’t like the Anime stuff off my radar I m afraid very disappointed

It's off my radar too, Buebelle.
So people are really into this? If it wasn't so horrible, I'd think it was cartoons for children.

Well, to me, ‘Strike’ and ‘Robin’ are perfect as played by Tom Burke and Holliday Grainger.

Of course, I hadn’t read any of the books when I first watched it, so they were embedded in my mind.

Perhaps if I had read the books first, I might think differently, as so often happens.

Yes, I think the casting is good. The story line is strange and there are a lot of characters to sort out.

As with many BBC productions, it's all filmed in the dark.

I was bored and nodded off halfway through, shame it’s usually quite riveting.
