Featuring Linford Christie

I think GN has been overtaken by a load of misery-guts lately.

Why go on a thread just to moan?
Just walk on by.

We like moaning. smile

We couldn't hear the majority of what was said due to the back ground music.

I really enjoyed the episode with Linford Christie. What a charming, happy person he appears to be sharing so much laughter with his daughter and Alastair.
He too, is just a person wanting to enjoy the countryside.

I've seen a couple of snatches of different 'celebrity' programmes and they just make me feel so out of date. I've mostly never even heard of these people.
Did often watch ETTC and used to really enjoy it on an afternoon with a cuppa. It actually showed a couple of the places DH and I viewed when we first came back to the UK - how deceptive TV can be. One particular house had the worst window frames ever, you could see daylight through nearly every one and there was a dreadful smell of drains in the kitchen, really in a bad state and yet they were all waxing lyrical over the house. We couldn't wait to leave!

Thank you for letting us know, I'll have a look on iPlayer. He had a hard time getting there, he's a hero.

Escape to the country is essentially a gentle afternoon time -waster of a programme, it's really not suited to a prime- time slot!
I use this programme to allay boredom when I'm doing my ironing.
Most of the properties are well beyond the reach of normal people anyway.🤔

I love a house programme but I only caught a glimpse of this one. DH is not keen. He thinks the money involved is obscene. I just like sitting with a cup of tea and a biscuit pulling holes in it all.

😂

I had one of my properties filmed by the architect Grorge Clarke and crew, I think it was Dream Homes Abroad around 2005. We spent more time drinking wine with the crew than doing anything constructive! 🍷

IF I'd watched it, I would probably have made a light-hearted comment about something and been told off on GN, so luckily no one can moan at me! grin
At present I'm staying in a friend's house which is an ETTC idyll. It's 19th century, pillared entrance, sweeping staircase, roll top baths, original sash windows, flagstone floors etc. Very, very nice, but astronomical heating bills and a church bell dinging all night!

MissAdventure Fri 13-Dec-24 10:09:31

I love looking around the houses, but they've spoilt it for me by sending people off to local "chicken painting" classes and so on.

Grand designs is my favourite, but I'll watch anyone move anywhere, if it means nosing around the houses .

They used to tell you if the couple's offer was accepted and they got the house, now they leave you guessing, it's frustrating

Very few of those on this programme seem to go ahead to purchase any they are shown. Think the programme seems to be more for Estate Agents being able to show off some off their more expensive and hard to shift properties.

I often wondered that too, but I do like looking round other houses.
I watched this celebrity programme just because it was Linford Christie.

Franbern Fri 13-Dec-24 09:32:02

When ETTC first started I used to really enjoy it. Totally different format back then.
Firstly, far more normal people with normal amounts of money for moving home. Then the presented would select four houses which they would 'view' on line in their own homes, selecting two of them to visit.

I really cannot get my head around the vast sums of money that people reckon they can afford in this programme now, and the constant demand for acres of land by people who are coming up to retirement age.

Always get told about the pub in the nearest village, but never about the bus and/or train services or even how crowded the roads get in rush hour.

Silly elderly people thinking properties with loads of steps both going to and in them, are wonderful!!!! never 'future planning'. Kitchens so large you would need a Segway to use them being written off as 'not big enough'!!!!

I enjoyed the episode featuring Jenny from The Chase. It was interesting to see her as so normal. She and partner were really looking forward to a different kind of place to live.

I like anything that involves looking round peoples houses! I’ll check it out. The best celebrity type things are Mastermind and University Challenge ( the latter Christmas one being a bit of a celebrity one) because they have a few questions that I can actually answer.

petal53 Fri 13-Dec-24 00:21:58

I’ve seen Escape to the Country, but never seen Celebrity Escape to the Country.

Fairislecable Thu 12-Dec-24 23:22:40

I have nothing against Linford Christie it’s just the programming leaves a lot to be desired.

Fairislecable Thu 12-Dec-24 23:21:27

I am heartily sick of the continual stream of celebrity something or other, whether it’s cruising, going for a walk, buying houses etc

If the BBC gets anymore desperate it will be celebrities scraping the barrel bottom!

Shez1955 Thu 12-Dec-24 23:05:01

It was actually quite good

Allira Thu 12-Dec-24 22:01:27

I’ll watch it on iPlayer.

ETTC is an afternoon programme for me ☕️🧁

I recorded it too because DH wanted to watch the Tower of London.

I just thought posters might be interested because it was Linford Christie, one of our finest Olympians.
Not because it was celebrity.

Ah well.

Yes agree, I've only recently become a viewer of Escape To The Country in the past year The celebrity editions ruin it imo.
