I'm curious as to how the stage musical and the movie compare. Surely the stage production is not as long?

They must have added songs and story lines to the movie to drag it out.

I enjoyed the stage show. However I found the film too long which I saw in the cinema with my DIL. I’m dreading the follow up coming out later in the year as I think it’s taken as red we will be going to see it 😕

We watched it on Prime too (Uk) I hated it.

Bringing up an older thread. This is already on Prime Video in Canada, so DH and I watched it last night. I love a musical, but I don't think he realized it was going to be one.

He did ask about 15 minutes in, "Are they going to sing though the whole movie?" I just laughed and answered in sing-song voice, "Yes, of course!"

While it was beautifully done, it was just so long! 2 hours 40 minutes. And we never did understand how Glinda and Elphaba became enemies, as hinted at the beginning.

And I absolutely see how the movie won awards for Best Costume Design and Best Production Design. Beautiful and unique costumes, wow! It was a delight to watch for those reasons. One thing I couldn't bypass was how slim, to the point of looking ill, was Ariana Grande, playing Glinda. I do hope she is healthy, since she is a wonderfully talented young lady. I don't normally make comments on women's bodies, but it was worrisome to me.

Yes it is a bit long, the 2nd half was more entertaining for younger ones

My son tells me it’s 2 1/2 hours long! Bit long for children although my granddaughter is going to see it soon.

I also enjoyed it, Ziggy, but became irritated by small girl constantly going to the loo.
Do you think it is because it is not really a children's film and doesn't really hold them like a cartoon?
