Gosh ... I was really disappointed. Not only was the central joke (and the point of the programme) of young children speaking their mind and asking penetrating questions totally lost, but the acting was very wooden. What a let down.

I liked it. More than I thought I would having read some of the comments on here last night.

Felt like they could do another series at least.

Liked the wife and granddaughter.

She was awful, so irritating.
But she was good!

Boz Sat 28-Dec-24 17:28:30

I'd like to give a shout for the awful friend, played brilliantly by Hattie Morahan. Always a nightmare and never changing over the years.

I quite enjoyed it seeing the children grown up. I wouldn’t continue watching if they carried it on. Jake was the one who had changed the most. Hugh Dennis has gone very thin!

But I didn't like the grownup versions of either Jake or Karen.

I did like Ben.

I enjoyed too.

Gingster It's called acting!

I didn’t think it was dire. I quite enjoyed it, and it was very interesting to see the children grown up.

Sago Sat 28-Dec-24 15:08:26

It was dire!
It’s always good to end on a high…….this was on the floor😱.

My DGS likes staging huge crashes with his little 🚗 🚙 🚘 and then races his police car to the scene.

Just to out do you, my brother used to take his toy tractor up on the garage roof, set fire to it then drive it off the roof.
He is very successful as an adult but still er unusual.

Boys and their toys hey?😁

he is very like Ben smile

Allira Sat 28-Dec-24 10:50:03

Our son with ADHD has also grown into the most empathetic one and is sensible beyond his years when he would be the one to climb onto the roof and try to set fire to it.
Is he called Ben? 😀

JaneJudge Sat 28-Dec-24 10:44:54

I enjoyed it. My family is a similar age and it was all very relatable. We have also moved into a smaller home, most probably too early as our families appear to be expanding more rapdily than dwindling. I think it was a tale of muddling along whilst they are little and they grow up into perfectly functional human beings. The friend that never moves on was a familiar tale too, selfish neighbours, grandchildren as hyperactive as your own children. We never had a minutes peace and when we do we get bombarded by them. Our son with ADHD has also grown into the most empathetic one and is sensible beyond his years when he would be the one to climb onto the roof and try to set fire to it.

Allira Sat 28-Dec-24 10:34:08

I didn't like Jake or Karen much now they are adults.

It didn't really work, what a pity.

Oreo Sat 28-Dec-24 10:31:29

Another reason for never going back to what used to be a successful sit com.It needed them to be children to make it work.
All a bit depressing really.

Gingster Fri 27-Dec-24 23:32:21

I can’t watch Hugh Dennis since he played the part of a peeping Tom in The Couple next Door.
He was seriously creepy.

Didn’t enjoy Outnumbered the little I saw of it.

I was disappointed, but doesn’t Ben (DanielRoche) look like a young Jay Rayner.

My main thought initially was that of the three children, he was the most changed as an adult.
But I am dreadful at recognising faces anyway, so wasnt even sure it was the same actor to begin with! blush

With hindsight, he did remind me of someone, and now you have spelled it out, yes,, Jay Raynor does fit the bill.

I thought Ben just looked like an older version of his young self. I liked him the most.

It was Jake who had seemed to changed the most; I know he was made up to look tired but it was more than that, he had lost so much weight.

It wasn't as good as I'd hoped, was it the same scriptwriters?

lemsip Fri 27-Dec-24 22:28:33

oh dear! a let down.

jusnoneed Fri 27-Dec-24 18:21:00

Ah thank you eddiecat78, must of been some good make up! If that was the daughter screeching I'm not surprised he would look like that lol.
I only caught part of it because I'd watched something else on an app and was about to turn off the tv.

I only saw a couple minutes of this, used to love it when they were youngsters but it seemed rather dire from the bit I watched - a young girl screeching about being a Hyena in the garden. But what I wondered was has the lad who plays Jake been ill? He looked awful.

If you'd watched it all you would know that Jake hadn't slept for ages due to his daughter.
I enjoyed it. It wasn't as funny as previous episodes but in the past they have covered difficult subjects especially dementia so it didn't feel wrong for Pete to be facing cancer. For me the charm of the programme has always been that it has reflected my own stages of life - and it was lovely to see that the children had become caring adults - as most do
