Only vaguely remember snow in 1982 but still clearly remember the big snow of 1963.

I worked part time in a bank sub branch in a village.

I was drafted in to work in the main branch then as I lived locally and could walk in to work, whereas others couldn’t get in.

The sub branch had to remain closed.

I can remember the December and January being very cold that winter- we had to do school games in the snow- and then the rest of the winter being a non event. Coldest one I can remember is probably 1978/79.

Oh yes, the programme brought back some memories! DD1 was just 14 months old and I was six months pregnant. We’d just moved to a house with inadequate storage heaters and a damp problem. I spent quite some time holed up with DD1 in our bedroom, which was the warmest room in the house. I have a photo of us somewhere sitting on the bed surrounded by toys and books, with a background of a winter wonderland through the window behind us.

I can’t really remember it, though living in Yorkshire, I imagine it hit us. I was working then, too, so the buses must have been running ok. I’ve probably blocked it out 😂. However, I do remember the end of 2010 as being very bad, and the snow lasted quite some time (though not as long as it seems to have done in 1982). It started here Nov 17th and went on well into January . If memory serves me right, the beginning of the year 2010 was harsh, too, with heavy snow.

It took me over 2 hours to make the three mile journey from home to the children's school and the extra half mile to work.

I had a temporaray hourly paid job and my manager was so impressed that I had made the effort, he told me to put on my time sheet that I had arrived at work at 9.00am as usual, and signed off at 3.00, even though he sent me home an hour early

I recall this. We lived in the far north of Scotland and the snow was so deep. Everything just carried on, though, work and schools etc, nothing closed down. I remember the wheels on the coach built pram getting clogged with snow and having to stop and poke it out from between the spokes.

How could I forget it.
This was our home at the time. You might think we were shivering with cold, no 😁 we had a big log burner.
Our problem was our fresh water. All the standpipes froze.
Fortunately we were able to fill 5 gal water bottles at work.
The mooring was on RSPB land so it was completely unspoiled.

I watched the '47 one, not that I was around then, that year was unbelievable. I don't remember '82 at all. Maybe the bad weather was regional and London wasn't so badly affected.

We lived in London then (not the City) and we had long icicles hanging from the gutters which DH went and knocked down in case one of the children went outside and one fell on their head!

I remember it well. I was working in my first job as a young reporter and despite the snow, made it to and from work every single day in my trusty Mini. I remember driving up one of the back roads near us and the snow drifts on either side of the road were taller than the Mini! I also set off home from work one evening, only to discover when I reached one junction that they had closed the snow gates. I had to get out and open them - drive out onto the other road and then close them again.

Me neither - did it amount to much in London? Probably too busy with 3 under 6 to noticeshockshock

I can’t remember it at all.

My sister took my arm to keep me steady, but we both fell over too, in a town car park.

Allira Sun 05-Jan-25 19:34:35

No, missed it.

I do remember that snowy, icy winter because I was pregnant and slipped over taking the older DC to school.
My neighbour insisted on taking them after that, until it thawed, with her little boy.

TillyTrotter Sun 05-Jan-25 19:33:11

I have it recorded to watch.
I was pregnant that winter and remember it quite well.

Greenfinch Sun 05-Jan-25 19:32:13

Yes I watched it with great interest as I can’t say I really remembered it. My children were all very young and I must have got them to school somehow as I don’t remember the school being closed. I do remember 1979 though as I skidded badly and nearly ended up in a ditch.

Mollygo Sun 05-Jan-25 18:54:38

Anyone watch this? It brought back memories.
