I watched but was disappointed - might not watch again.
7.30 pm and still sat in the garden
Nicola Sturgeons husband pleads guilty.
What has happened to kiwi fruit?
Changes in taxation that Andy Burnham seems to be interested in
Enjoyed last night's, looks like a new vicar is on the way!

I love Sidney. Just want to give him a big hug.
I read and enjoyed some of the books. I also watched some of the TV series but gave up when the plots became so far removed from the original stories and increasingly anachronistic and feeble.
Still watching, but storylines have been abysmal.
Anyone still watching this?
A shadow of its former self really.
Not much ‘vicaring’ being done, and Geordie seems to need Alphy to hold his hand throughout all the cases.
Think only 1 more episode to go, not sorry really.
Another daft episode.
Why was Geordie so upset about Will leaving?
What about Sidney? Was he not so bothered about him?
How soon they forget!
As with so many series, Grantchester has moved so far away from the original tales upon which it is based.
And not for the better.
It made me sad because I hated leaving the countryside around Cambridge when I moved. I really miss it. 😢
Quite sad tonight, bye bye Will!
The baby storyline was a bit silly, though.
I don't follow it religiously (see what I did there?
)
Boom boom!

They had lots of children, so in earlier series they would have had less coming in and more going out, I suppose.
I don't know about Mrs C - didn't she lose a lot of money to a rogue ex-husband? She's something of a martyr, too, and probably thinks she is doing God's work by cleaning up after the vicars. Or maybe she's very astute and realises that she is an indispensable plot device?Wasn't she cleaning at Geordie and Kathy's house? While Kathy sat on the sofa looking glamorous in her wig?
Or perhaps I'd lost the plot by then.
Yes, she was. She seems to be working for them now, probably as a way of keeping her in the cast. In the earlier series' the vicarage had a vicar and a curate, but now they are down to one vicar - and isn't he married? If so, his wife may be expected to do the housework. I don't follow it religiously (see what I did there?
) but binge a few once in a while, so could well be wrong.
I thought they had more children too, Nannan2.
Only four kids for Geordie &his wife? I thought they had 4 to begin with then she had another about 2 or 3rd series?
Been binge-watching it- have 3 to go.But so far yes i agree, going downhill on storylines- and yet another vicar who seems to like an end of day drink.Thats all 3 of them now- must be hard work vicarring😅And yes Cathy IS becoming more like her nmother, despite mrs C telling her otherwise! Also i agree Mrs C getting a bit above herself since she married the nice rich man, and he now doesnt seem to have much to say for himself.Mrs C not happy now she's not tending to vicarage she needs a little job maybe in village to occupy her?Was a great show at beginning, but they always seem to be taking these poor young vicars down a bad road, until something or someone comes along to get them on road to straight& narrow again!- not sure theres anywhere to go anymore with this show.
Is that nonsense still going?????
In our North Derbyshire town back in the 50s/60s there was a patch of waste ground where a touring fairground and circus camped for the winter. They always had a couple of rides open and you could view the few animals in their cages. I have to say the animals were always let out for a couple of hours a day in a make-shift enclose for fresh air and exercise. I appreciate it wouldn't be acceptable nowadays but back then it was seen as being kind to them. Better than the vile Belle Vue Zoo nearer to Manchester. Or the zoo at the top of Blackpool Tower.
" ...no violence despite there usually being a murder."
:-)
Yes, we regularly went to Billy Smarts circus in the 50s and 60s on Blackheath, London , it was always a a sell out even though it was in the winter and very cold.

Not great I thought I was watching " Midsommer Murders " .
Exactly what I thought.
They had lots of children
Only four!

I thought it odd that Geordie and family are suddenly in a smart large house and with Mrs C working for them. Why would the woman suddenly be cleaning for them, and isn't her hubby is meant to be wealthy?
It seemed very odd indeed.
I didn't watch all of the previous series but Geordie is a DI so reasonably well-paid and his wife did work in a department store.
However, I thought Mrs C married a wealthy man so why is she working as a cleaner? Why isn't she running the WI, the Mothers' Union etc?

Geordie’s wife suffered some sort of sexual abuse by her boss at the department store a while back.
Did she ever go back to work?
Yes, they always seemed to be really hard up, yet now quite flush. Did Geordie get a pay rise?
Does Will’s wife do all her own cleaning now, thought Mrs C was indispensable?
I think the change in Geordie's family circumstances is meant to show the increase in the standard of living (for many) from the 50s to the 60s.
I don't know if his wife went back to work. I thought the abuser chap was seen off by Mrs C (or someone else) pretending to be a shopper and reporting him? In which case, she wouldn't have had to leave.
Also, maybe fewer vicars got housekeepers as a matter of course, and were expected to do their own cleaning? They need to keep Mrs C in, as she's a good character, and gives a puritanical perspective to counter the increasing 'permissiveness' of the age.
It used to be Geordie who was the unreconstructed male, and his wife (is it Cathy?) who was more forward thinking, but that seems to have changed with this series, possibly to show how a generation of women who had been held back by societal expectations were often resentful of daughters who had very different opportunities and expectations.
I think the murder plots in this are silly, and wouldn't watch it for those, but I do like the thoughtful way it showcases how different daily life was, and the huge changes that have come to pass in living memory. I don't like it enough to watch it live, but like to binge a few episodes on a lazy Sunday afternoon if I'm doing nothing more interesting. I did see half of the first one in the new series, but got bored. I might go back to it at some point.

Just no pleasing some people!
No, it's just that different people are pleased by different things.

Mrs C looks very different now, bit like Queen Elizabeth! She always looks so glum. She and her husband seem so ill-matched.
