Eek!

I did take a look earlier but wasn't keen on early Rod.

However, he's mellowed and looks better with age too 🙂

Yes I meant to say tonight is Rod night on BBC2 (or Tonight's the Night maybe).

My husbands best friend and our best man was good friends with Rod in the late 60s/70s they shared a flat in London for a short while and played football together for a few years.
My sister in law claims she danced and snogged Rod at the local University bar after He had gigged in a city centre pub with Julie Driscoll.

Loving the programme!

I remember LJB too - sarf east London? Can’t believe Rod Stewart is 80. I wasn’t that mad on him but he has certainly lasted the distance so good on him.

petra

The first time I saw him live was at The Kursal in Southend. He was with the faces then. That ballroom had a sprung floor like the tower ballroom at Blackpool.
If you’ve ever danced on one you’d understand how odd it felt with hundreds of people bouncing up and down 😂

yep!

Rod is one of Britain's best entertainers ever. Many happy birthdays yet, Rod.

Happy Birthday - Rod the Mod.

I first saw him above a garage in Derby playing with a group called Steam Packet (I think) with Long John Baldry and Elton John in about 1967 ish. Have loved him ever since.

I saw Rod when he was with Long John Baldry and the Hoochie Coochie Men many years ago. I probably didn't notice Rod much because I was watching the gorgeous Long John Baldry.

Happy birthday Rod

Georgesgran I saw him at the arena in Newcastle he told us all to sit down as we must be shattered! Lovely man!

Love rod have all his albums. My dear brother died tragically at work aged 37 he shared his birthday today with rod. Lovely connection. His music has got me through a lot over the years. When he released his ‘time’ album a few years back and the last song was pure love. I cried when I heard it as my last son had moved out and the words just hit me. Happy birthday Rod you’ll always be my favourite.

I saw Rod in Las Vegas a few years ago and he had his daughter on stage with him. The show was a tribute to his father and included lots of photos of his childhood. He is a brilliant entertainer.

Saw him at Gateshead Stadium - he was great and interacted well with the audience.

I’ve just looked up Long John Baldry kitty - what a sad life and death.

Absolutely love Rod….🥰

I would never have put him at 80.
Love his music, particularly his early songs, I remember John Peel playing the mandolin to Maggie May on TOTP, turns out he was miming, but then they all were back then. At the end they all kicked a football about on stage.

Happy Birthday Rod - you have given me so much joy over the years.

Gulp.
I like that he’s outed himself with his train sets hobby. He said for years he didn’t own up to it because it wasn’t ‘cool’ and didn’t go back then with his rock ‘n’ roll image.
I think he seems a lovely man, very family oriented. All his kids (3 wives) adore him. Says a lot.

Happy birthday ROD! 🤗❤️

Calendargirl Fri 10-Jan-25 13:05:21

He looks like a dolled up, little old man in many photos nowadays, especially next to the statuesque Penny.

But in our hearts, he will always be Rod as he was all those years ago.

Happy Birthday Rod.

GrannyGravy My two sisters have loved Rod since he started out. They have seen him every time he has come to Birmingham. The first time the tickets were £1. The only time they didn't go was last year as the prices were ridiculous. It would have cost a fortune as their husbands go too. They were annoyed at the prices.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 10-Jan-25 12:01:06

I adore Rod Stewart and all his music.

He used to live next door to our friends, would always say he,lo and chat, he is a lovely, down to earth man.
