Cra Irish Drama BBC 4

The answer's in the first episode. When Conall goes to the pharmacy to get his father's insulin, he encounters Tara who has a bandaged hand. She tells him to leave Martin alone. He asks her how her hand is and she replies that she doesn't want his help - only with rather grittier language as Father Ted would say!

Overall, I enjoyed this. It got a bit silly in episode 5 with the Keystone cops but by that time I had guessed (rightly) who the culprit was but not why. Once Ray told Conall to leave it, I knew it couldn't be who I'd originally thought it must be.

Connel beat up the boyfriend right at the beginning - I still don't know why!

Have watched it all now - brilliant. The 2 similar girls are Tara and Annemarie - friends who had both worked at the hotel. Annemarie has come back from America and now lives in a bungalow with her brother. Tara is the one who was in Edinburgh with Art on the night of the murder. She now lives in caravan with baby and unpleasant boyfriend. This boyfriend is the person Connel beat up right as

Although I find the report/podcaster annoying, it’s clear that something is very off about the first investigation into Conall’s mother’s disappearance. It needs someone outside the Garda to do some digging and keep people on their toes.

The new detective team are hampered by having Patsy Sweeney around who is behaving very suspiciously and the rookie Barry who can’t figure out where his loyalties lie.

I’m still wondering why Conall does what he does at the very start. Is it just a device to let the viewer know that he is a loose cannon who likes to dispense his own brutal justice or is that lad going to have some relevance later on?

I’m also confused by the resemblance between two of the younger female characters. I can’t figure out if this is concidence or relevant or whether I have missed something. I suppose in a small community where a lot of people are probably cousins of some sort, even if only distantly, this kind of things can happen.

I wasn’t sure about this drama at first but now I’m half way I think it’s rather good at switching the suspicion from one person to another.

Apart from the subtitles I’m enjoying this drama now. The scenery, the music, and even bits of humour.

I've watched three episodes. Yes, the subtitles are small.

Not sure about the drama as it seems to veer between menace and some very graphic violence and the Ballykissangel-like scenes between the deeply annoying reporter-podcaster and the rookie cop.

I had to smile when the caption "Murder on the Bog" popped up on screen.

And without giving anything away, I am confused by the resemblance between two female characters. Wondering if this is part of the plot, coincidence or something about the relationships between these people that I am missing.

I have a 32in tv screen, and the subtitles were fine, no smaller than usual. I’m really enjoying this drama.

I do find text messages impossible though, and have to pause and go right up to the screen to decipher them - very annoying. I agree it would be helpful to include the text in the subtitles. Extraneous noises, like “phone ringing”, “shot fired” etc are included on subtitles.

I'm enjoying it but I'm so grateful I don't live in such a small community in the middle of the bogs.. beautiful though they are to look at on film or when visiting..

Just had a quick look on IPlayer as this is on my list to watch.
The I Pad has good large subtitles. Would recommend watching on that if you have one.

I had to give up, the sub titles were so small. We do not have a massive TV. My eye sight is poor and I get furious at the trend to include text messages. I have no chance of reading them, too small and not long enough. But I am just an elderly viewer, not to be thought important. Young producers/writers will not pander their wares to the likes of me.

I enjoyed the series.. yes the subtitles were rather small..changed my picture focus on settings and they were a little larger

Yes we watched it. Really enjoyed it. Didn't find the subtitles to be too much of a problem, but do wish that programmes would sort them out once and for all- white subtitles on a pale/white background are unreadable, and as has been mentioned on another thread, wish that text messages were enlarged on the screen, so I don't have to keep bobbing up to get a closer look at the screen!
