Silent Witness - time to retire this

Am I alone in thinking Silent Witness is stretching believability to the limit? I have watched this since the early days and always loved it but the current stories and cast just leave me cold.

I haven’t see the latest series as DH and I have only quite recently started watching the back series’ on IPlayer. I agree that one has to suspend belief but we enjoy it. What makes us laugh though is how Emilia Fox away goes off on her own into dangerous situations. It reminds me of the old Hammer House of Horror films when the young woman always went down to the cellar in the middle of the night, wearing just a negligee and, guess what, there was the vampire!

I don’t think it’s as good as it used to be. Too far fetched but I still watch it hoping it will improve.

I have watched it from the beginning . I agree it’s a bit far fetched now but I really enjoy it. I prefer Nikki to the first pathologist ( can’t remember her name, never really took to her as an actress)

Emilia Fox was at Uni with my eldest daughter

I’ve always enjoyed it. I’m catching up on the latest series but have to admit that in episode 1/2 in parts I ‘listened’ rather than watched from behind a cushion. Watching alone in the dark is probably not a good idea. 😂. Sometimes these series are milked for all they’re worth. Perhaps time to call a halt?
As for there not being much to watch on TV, I have a huge list of must watches! There’s a huge choice available.

Why can’t program makers know when it’s time to call it a day 🤷‍♀️

Ilovecheese

Just watched the last episode and loved it! It's a drama.

It's a drama.

Yes, it is.
So was Star Trek and I enjoyed that.

Yes, they do have scientific advisers and I'm not commenting on the accuracy of the science, but on the way the main characters go galloping around the countryside, multitasking.

Pathology, forensic science and police work can be like that.

However, not like Silent Witness which is unlike reality. They are multi-tasking miracle workers 😁

exactly..I wonder what authentic Police Detectives make of it...

I meant to quote love0c who said:

It got far too dark and chilling for me.

That pathology, forensic science and police work can be dark and chilling.

I doubt that many watch it!!
They must have advisers on the programme. 🤔

I used to really like it. But stopped watching quite a while ago. It got far too dark and chilling for me.

We spend most of the programme saying that would never happen. What has happened to Jack he spends most of the time strutting around like a neanderthal? Very strange

What on earth does Nikki see in Jack??

Prof Whatsername is making amazing progress on the piano. What’s the betting she’ll be playing Albinoni’s Adagio as N&J walk up the aisle.

Aveline Fri 31-Jan-25 11:30:21

I still quite like it. I can't understand comments like 'there's nothing on TV'. The choice is absolutely colossal. It's sometimes hard to decide what to watch. For me it depends on my mood. Sometimes I fancy a fast moving American court drama, sometimes a slow comedy romance other times a documentary or soap. So much choice.

It’s the finding of information in a couple of minutes that has me roaring. The rabbit warren that is the internet can take you hours to find out something very specific, yet that seem to find random stuff in the blink of an eye.

rockgran Fri 31-Jan-25 09:25:08

I don't want it to be real - I want it to be entertaining.

Katek Fri 31-Jan-25 09:03:31

Same here - it's a tv drama, pure fiction, I get enough realism on the news. I actually thought this series was stronger although I do think they could have kept Velvy!

I happily suspend disbelief and just enjoy watching it.

Exactly this, I enjoy it too.

harrigran Fri 31-Jan-25 08:51:45

I have seen trailers for the programme but have never watched one episode.
I don't think it is suitable evening viewing.

It does stretch credulity beyond reasonable limits.
"None of This Is True"! I find it extremely irritating.

DH quite enjoys it but says I spoil it by muttering "oh, that's utter rubbish. That wouldn't happen" so tends to record it and watch when I'm not there.

Rainbow1235 Thu 30-Jan-25 10:25:09

It’s very far fetched now but I carry on watching as tbh there’s not much to watch lately . Television is shocking these days x

We love it still, though agree that some of the scenarios are far-fetched and a bit repetitive. But then we struggle to use our smart tv due to technical ignorance. The eldest DD tells us she only watches films now and the youngest has some modern system that I don't understand. We though having a smart TV was modern!!

Sarnia Thu 30-Jan-25 09:52:41

And there was me thinking how consistently good it still is.
