Silent Witness - time to retire this

Am I alone in thinking Silent Witness is stretching believability to the limit? I have watched this since the early days and always loved it but the current stories and cast just leave me cold.

I love it. With so much rubbish on the TV these days it’s good to have something different to watch. The soaps are all appallingly bad, I used to watch them all but these days they’re terrible. So it’s a relief to find something half decent to watch.

I like it.. Moving it to Birmingham will hopefully be different.

We’ve just watched an old episode where Harry goes off to Hungary and he finds himself mixed up with gangsters. At the end of part one we see him get shot and then set on fire. I turned to DH and said “well he’s out then, there’s no coming back from that”. But, guess what!!
Yes one has to suspend belief but we enjoy it. I can’t comment on the latest series as I guess it will be a very long time until we catch up.

They always seem to run series that little bit too long. I suppose they just run out of fresh ideas and it is easier to do this. I loved Vera but I think they have been sensible in stopping it now.

I find myself studying Nicki’s hair a lot, I find it fascinating the way it’s up in a complicated style one minute (usually when out on a job) then down the next. I’m very envious as I can’t manage a simple plait and have less and less hair these days. Can’t stand Jack and find their relationship unconvincing but like some of the storylines. Think they should kill Jack off.

You’ll love tonight’s then . They showed n and j in bed together and her seducing jack on the sofa . My husband loves Nikki but even he was shouting at the tv . This is not what silent witness is about .
I’m not keen on all the romance during their working day it’s very unrealistic office behaviour.

😁
They'd just be on the phone, advising unseen patients all day!

I was a fan of Doctors until the BBC saw fit to cancel it. There were always people complaining about it being unrealistic, with the doctors rushing off to solve a patient's crisis at home, or sitting by their bedside in hospital. But how boring would it be to have a realistic depiction of a GP's surgery? "Yes that ankle has healed up nicely" "The blood tests were fine, I think we can reduce the dose" "Paracetamol and keep drinking. There's a lot of it about" Wouldn't really keep you glued to the screen.

Sarnia

And there was me thinking how consistently good it still is.

Me too

I love it, especially with the two new characters. I love Maggie Steed. I am enjoying it as much as I always have, and that’s saying something when I have stopped watching all of the soaps!

I enjoy watching Silent Witness, always have done. Really like Nikki, her fashion sense also gives me ideas too. I literally bumped into her at Heathrow Airport last year she was with I presume her fiance (husband now I believe) and she looked and sounded just the very same as she apologised for the 'bump' I couldn't believe my eyes as I was literally side by side. I just wish I'd have taken he opportunity to say 'hello'.

SheepyIzzy I'm on my second time around with Bones watched it when it first came out and now, only 1 more series to go, perhaps I'll start watching CSI again on a rainy afternoon when it finishes.

Sweetcakes, I used to love CSI (The original lot, Grissom and Co). DVR and TV BOTH died a couple of weeks before Black Friday (typical) and I had only started watching Bones then (needed a couple of weeks to get used to buttons and how it all works) and Bones box set was on offer at Amazon and I did consider it. The only thing that annoys me about On Demand, you can't fast forward through the ads. I was fortunate, original watching Bones, NO ads, so I could see a couple of episodes back to back, now though if I skim through any, blasted ads!

But the writing, well done to them!

I enjoy it. It’s fiction not a documentary!

At the end of the day if you don't like it don't watch it nobody is twisting your arm. I like it and will continue to watch it.

Well that’s the point with me - I don’t like it, so I don’t watch it - no one is twisting my arm to do so!

As I said previously, though, I liked the earlier episodes, and of course, there has to be some degree of unreality (even with the earlier episodes), it is entertainment, after all. For me, though, it’s become so far fetched that it has become nonsensical, therefore I won’t waste my time watching it.

Never mind what Nikki sees in Jack - what does HE see in HER? To me she looks like a 45-year-old in a pre-teen body. Certainly not the child-bearing hips of my generation!

teachkate Sat 01-Feb-25 19:10:32

I love it and I think this series has stepped up a notch. Really enjoying the new characters - Maggie Steed is excellent a stalwart of British tv who I’ve not seen for ages & I think the newcomer Francesca Mills is so lovely she’s a great find

NannaFirework Sat 01-Feb-25 19:09:26

I like it!
We have watched it for years and yes it has changed - this series the new characters are brilliant but I could do without the lovey dovey story line!

Astitchintime Sat 01-Feb-25 18:24:08

I was quite surprised at the latest episode when Nikki had to explain to a qualified airline pilot what CRBN stood for.......wouldnt that be part of the job description ??

Nandalot Sat 01-Feb-25 18:15:05

We have not been a fan of this series, though have not watched all the available episodes yet. Particularly annoying is how Jack and Nikki keep canoodling in the workplace.

Dianehillbilly1957 Sat 01-Feb-25 17:35:15

To be honest it's just another tv crime drama, can't see how the character manages to be out of the department so much and solving all the crimes! Had it's day. BORING!

Zaran Sat 01-Feb-25 16:52:56

We still enjoy it, although DH has to look away in the mortuary scenes. The special effects are quite excellent, and the bodies very deathlike. 😉 However we don’t think the ‘romance’ is working. Much better to leave that love unrequited.

Labradora Sat 01-Feb-25 16:51:15

Why has Thingy ( I can't remember her name ). Is she a professor od some sort? Anway, why has she got a piano* in her office*.
Suits me but its a bit weird.

whywhywhy Sat 01-Feb-25 16:19:38

It has turned so unbelievably boring and should finished now. Dr Nikki Alexander and jack cooing over each other is getting on my wick! Fedup with it!

cookiemonster66 Sat 01-Feb-25 16:08:59

I am just finding it a bit like the BBC turning social issues into a drama to send a subliminal message to the masses, like a modern day Aesops fables, have you noticed they always turn a previous 12 months of major news stories into a 'drama'!Just look at this current series, poor treatment of the elderly in society episodes 1 & 2, asbestos and dangerous housing for the homeless and deprived areas episodes 3 & 4, and virus outbreak
