Just fabulous - what a wonderful voice.

Fool if you Think it's Over, Lilac Wine etc.

Unique voice!

I’d forgotten how much I loved her music in the late 70’s/80’s. That programme was a lovely trip down memory lane. It’s on BBC IPlayer for anyone who missed it tonight.

Listening to her now.

My Dad was a great fan of hers and for one of his birthdays I got him tickets for us to see her at Walthamstow Assembly Hall in the early 90's. She was great.

A rare Saturday evening when we were out, so missed this, but will watch on catch up tonight. A brilliant singer.

It was her 80th birthday this week, what an amazing performer and that voice!

It was a very entertaining show. Elkie at 80 is a remarkable singer and it was lovely to be reminded of her sings.

It was excellent, wasn't it, and I enjoy the information the BBC adds as to the provenance of songs and the history of her performing.

Not such a nice person as she pretends to be……..she was once, many years ago booked to appear at a charity event organised by our local rugby club. She was the ‘main act’ so due to come on fairly late. By her own admission, she likes a drink or two before coming on stage and that night she had had more than a couple. Half an hour before coming on stage, she demanded that her fee be increased by £1000 or she wouldn’t perform. This was a huge chunk out of the money the club had raised but they had to pay her to avoid disappointing the audience. It left a bad taste in a lot of mouths….

This thread has put me in mind of a poster PearlsaMinger! Such a clever moniker (there are others on here, equally witty!).
Hope she’s okay as not heard from her in a while.

Thoroughly enjoyed Elkie last night.

I remember seeing her in concert in Llandudno many moons ago. She can really belt those songs out. My favourite was always ‘Fool if you think it’s over’.

I've seen Elkie three times in recent years. Always brilliant.

Fantastic voice!

She has a beautiful voice. Ive seen her live many times.

I watched it last night and most of her songs I really love but I thought it was a mistake to sing that Karen Carpenter song because no voice everrrrr can compete with the tone of Karen's.

In 1969/70, 3 of us walked past this rugby park where an open air folk afternoon was happening. It sounded “ok” to us 11 year old girls but we only stopped to listen for 5 minutes to this lovely lady singing. Turned out it was Elkie trying to make her way into the professional musician scene! Saw her 25 years later on stage and she was absolutely wonderful. “Lilac Wine” was just fabulous in particular, gave me shivers up+down my spine!

I agree that Karen was unique.

Although - Elkie's version was more as the song was meant to sound
