I’d really like to see the old Angela Lansbury version of the film now. And I must rewatch Amelie. I saw it at the cinema when it first came out; bought the dvd but never watched it.
What are you reading at the moment?

That's a lovely film, Lesley Manville looked wonderful in the Dior dress
I had a night off from watching heavy stuff and watched Mrs Harris goes to Paris last night ( it was lovely!).
Will do 😁

I love some of the Aussie series mentioned. Rake was brilliant and A Place to Call Home. I agree Sam Neil.is wonderful and enjoyed watching The Twelve on ITVX. Thanks for pointing out Jack Irish, one I've wanted to see for a long while. Also enjoyed Scrublands, Black Snow, Mystery Road and Bali (also on ITVX) sorry I could go on and on,
Feel free to go on and on! When I enjoy watching a tv programme or a film it really adds to it being able to chat about it with other people.

Binge watched series one and had to really stop myself starting on series two. Such a violent series but also has me laughing out loud a lot. I see that Mr Inbetween has been recommended in The Times today but that isn’t on a free channel and imo isn’t as food as Jack Irish.
Watched every series Guy Pearce is brilliant but lot of good actors in it and good story lines.
High Country is another good Australian series think it's on iPlayer but can't remember as is Black Rain and the Australian version of death in paradise .
Lot is excellent series on 4 Walter presents. Just watched one set in the Dolomites in Italy only finished watching it last night know it's got flowers in the title but can't remember the rest, me and my foggy brain 🤦🤦🤦.
I did decide to watch the BBC Towards Zero. Tried the other week but gave up after few minutes. But glad I did watch it even though it was nothing like the excellent ITV version but still watchable .
I don't pay for TV channels just have the free ones. Freevee has some weird films and TV series but the occasional good one .
I re watched Alastair Simpson in Green for danger . Had forgotten how good it was an oldie but goody.
I save up things that I want to watch when he's with us. Ditto when I dog sit at my daughters. Last year I got to watch Renegade Nell [why on earth is there no second series, it was wonderful] and another recommended Australian series Mr Inbetween. At my daughters I got to watch Dear Bobby and American Primeval. If I had Prime and Netflix I think it would make my anxiety worse as I'd panic over how to get to watch everything I want to watch. I still haven't seen The Witcher, several series of Outlander and I've only just got to the end of Vikings. I gave up on Breaking Bad. My tv is pretty old as I get his cast offs.

Those who love Australian viewing, might want to watch Mystery Road, again with Aaron Pederson. On Prime. Brilliant series.
I don’t have Prime but my son is staying with us for a week and he can get it.
He should just be able to sign it in on his visit, if you have a smart tv with the app installed, or on a smart tablet.
I watched one recently called Secrets and Lies. A boy is killed in an Australian suburb, and a local man is assumed to be the killer - but was he?
I enjoyed it. It was a limited series, rather than a continuous one on Amazon Prime.
Maybee, if your son has Prime, you should be able to “piggyback” on his account. I did this with my daughter who lives in Melbourne, but whether they still allow this, you would have to ask. And you’ll be able to watch loads of lovely Sam Neill.
Good luck
Australian/ New Zealand films and series are like Scandi dramas except instead of about three actors appearing in everything it’s just Sam Neill usually. But, what the heck, he’s wonderful and I never get tired of watching him!

I’ve always rated Australian and New Zealand films and series ever since I saw the film about Phar Lap years ago. There was a BBC4 series a while back charting the history of Australian film. One of my favourites is a sweet little romcom called Three Summers. Recently Rams was excellent ( Ch4 I think). Then there’s (I think it’s called) The Hunt for the Wilderpeople? Looking forward to episode three of Jack Irish tonight.

It's a fab series. The age of it doesn't matter. I watched with my husband and 20+ son and we all enjoyed it.
There's loads of brilliant Aussie series to see. They've really come a long way over the past decade+
My favourites are -
# 'A Place to Call Home' - probably the best series I've ever watched (discovered during Covid and have watched the whole series twice - and will watch again). On AmzP
# 'The Heart Guy' - About a disgraced top surgeon whose 'sentence' is to spend a year as a rural G.P. Starring the always gorgeous Roger Corser. On U
# The comedy-drama legal series 'Rake' is good fun but VERY VERY naughty. S1 Ep5, guest starring Sam Neill, is hysterically funny. He plays a Doctor who's charged with having an improper relationship with his dog!! He IS guilty. Such a fun role for Sam Neill. On Ntfx.
# And if you go back a bit further then 'City Homicide' is also brilliant. Stars the brilliant Aboriginal actor Aaron Pedersen. Also on AmzP.
You'll want to Google more Aussie series after Jack Irish.
.
I can get them on BBC but not Ch4. I can get Ch4 subtitles on my iPad. I do wonder if the fact that I have subtitles on whenever I can makes me not concentrate on hearing what they’re saying?
Totally agree about subtitles! I usually manage to get them on ITV and C4 but never on BBC. No idea why.
In the event of something happening to me there is something I would like you all to see
I couldn’t work the relationship out, but that was probably because of the lack of subtitles ( which I need for most programmes, especially if people have American or Australian accents). I sometimes have Australian radio on and pretend I’m there.
I have watched the first series and enjoyed it. At some point I realised that it's quite old - no wonder Guy looks so young! There is another series available but I think I'll have a break, as series 1 was quite harrowing in places. I really didn't take to his partner who went off to hunt for a story in the Far East.
Going to watch episode one of this Australian series. Not the sort of thing I usually watch but a trailer for it popped up when I watched The Change and I love Guy Pearce. I don’t think he’s ever been in anything bad. It’s a few years old now but is very popular in Australia. I tried watching it on the tv but couldn’t get subtitles to work on Ch4 so am going watch it on my iPad.
