When Anne Married Mark.

Calendargirl I remember the day well - we all had a day off school. My grandmother invited 4 of her friends around, and we all watched the Wedding Service on her TV. Chairs all clustered around the TV.
I thought that the bride looked gorgeous. I had always admired HRH style, we now call it modest dressing.

Yes I watched it and remember the day. She did look very lovely but I always thought she would have preferred a more low key affair - which she did at least get when she remarried.

It's always nice to hear the views of someone outside the royal family or the royal household who isn't a journalist. Eric Grounds did come across as a nice chap and he was clearly proud, if not a little daunted, to have been part of it all.

We got a day off. It was fun, but the marriage didn't last. I see a pattern here...

I got married 2 months before Princess Anne and my wedding gown was similar. Only difference was I had a v neck but my sleeves were the same style.
I couldn't believe it when I watched the wedding on TV.

I was expecting ds1 who arrived 11 days later being 6 weeks premature.

I watched it with my mum and dad whilst enjoying tea and cake around the fire. A cosy memory !

We watched it at my aunt's central Bristol tower block council flat. The wedding could not have seemed more remote from our surroundings if it had been held on the moon.

I remember a rather naive fellow student telling me that she'd set her alarm early as she didn't want to miss the wedding breakfast!

I was a student in London and had just met my now husband. I decided we should go and join the onlookers on the route (now husband was not so keen but came along - he was trying to please me in those days ).

I remember having a fleeting glimpse of Anne waving at us from her beautiful carriage, with the D of E next to her. The rest of the procession is a bit of a blur as we then became crushed in the crowd - a terrifying experience and one that’s made me avoid those kind of crowds ever since. We went to the Students’ Union building to watch the rest on TV.

I was expecting ds1 who arrived 11 days later being 6 weeks premature.

I watched it with my mum and dad whilst enjoying tea and cake around the fire. A cosy memory !

I was very pregnant, too, Gingster and hoping DC1 would arrive a bit early rather than at Christmas, but no, she was late. 🤱

I was au pairing in Germany and we watched it at the children's grandparents house. Imagine their surprise when one of the hymns was "Glorious things of thee are spoken" which is of course, the same tune as the German national anthem.

I remember it all too well. Was it really a BH?
DH was at work, I was a snivelling wreck on the sofa still grieving our baby boy who had died just a few weeks previously aged 24 days.
My Dad was the one person who realised that I would be feeling low and rang me from Scotland where they lived. I remember his love and kindness so vividly.

Yes, it was a special bank holiday. It was also a national holiday when Charles and Diana married.

I don’t recall it being a BH. The pharmacy where I worked was open so we had to go in. The boss gave us a two hour lunch break though, and took us all to his large house to watch on what then seemed a gigantic colour TV. I sat on the lush cream-coloured Persian rug because the chairs ran out!

My mum worked at National Westminster Bank in EC3 London and she rang me at home, to hold the telephone receiver to the TV so she could hear part of the ceremony.

I know I wasn’t at work, but whether I took it as holiday, I’m not sure.

I remember that we had the day off school- I was 14 and the next day all my friends and I could talk about how handsome Prince Andrew was…
Another thing I recall was that my Mum made a comment about how Princess Anne should have worn a more supportive bra! Of all the things to say about her dress😱
Watching it again last night I thought Princess Anne looked lovely and her tiara was very sparkly ( I know it was the one her Mother wore for her wedding which made it very special) but it surprised me as Princess Anne has never struck me as being one for all the sparkly jewellery etc- more a pearl type. Just an observation though and only my opinion.
