ITVX do you have to pay the premium price to view some programmes?

I thought we could watch Malpractice the other night but every time I attempted to see it a sign asking us to pay for ad free viewing came up. Is this something that happens with certain popular programmes? I tried Fake and it appeared to be starting in the normal way. I thought the ad free was a matter of choice. Probably wrong.

The point of paying for ITVX is that you can 'binge' series and watch without ads (unless you are watching live). You also get access to a lot of other content that is not available to non-subscribers.

How much is it to subscribe?

Georgesgran Thu 08-May-25 11:24:11

Just Google. It’s £5.99 a month or £59.99 annually - premium.

Thanks Georgesgran! That was lazy of me! Sorry.

Georgesgran Thu 08-May-25 13:24:08

I meant - I’d just Googled - it wasn’t a criticism. X

I think it's worth it. We used to have Britbox, as I much prefer UK television to US, and the Britbox content is included in an ITVX subscription.

I much prefer bingeing to weekly episodes of a drama, so like that option, too. Also, you can download things to an iPad or similar to watch online. This is less of a boon than it used to be as now you can use your phone as a hotspot and stream from anywhere, but it's worth knowing about just in case.

I am watching both of these programmes without paying a subscription but do get the ads but I don't mind. I watch them via my Firestick

You can watch on catchup without paying, but I think you can only see them an episode at a time, rather than watching them back to back, which you can do with a subscription.

You can binge watch on ITVx. I don't subscribe, the adverts, although annoying, not worth the money to stop them.
Watched two episodes of Grace back to back, a lazy afternoon, 😂

That is what I thought you could do. I don’t mind the ads and certainly don’t want to pay not to have them. Can’t understand why I couldn’t get Malpractice without a payment.

Ps Netflix with the occasional ad is cheaper than ITVX. Now that is worth it - £4.99 if I remember correctly.

You do NOT have to pay for ITV X - I have just seen Malpractice - you do have to put up with adverts. If you don't want adverts, then the premium service is for you, but it certainly isn't necessary!

Since it changed to ITV X though, it's a terrible site, takes ages to even get it to play!

Lovetopaint037 Thu 08-May-25 20:08:08

Thank you MadeInYorkshire. I can’t understand why we couldn’t get it to play. Every time I clicked on the play option it rolled away and the pay for the premium came on. I tried on two days. Got Fake !

MadeInYorkshire Thu 08-May-25 22:14:53

Fake is sort of ok, but Malpractice is better, and shows just what the NHS will do to avoid their name being besmirched ... more like a documentary really! Keep trying, they are just trying to get more money out of you.

On a similar note, Netflix is really doing my head in! I pay to not have ads, but still get them, then look to see something decent to watch, and half the time it is BBC and ITV series that I watched years ago! Grrr ....

ITVX is doing my head in (I use the free version). It keeps forgetting where I got to, which is annoying because I don't often watch an episode all in one go.

We ‘found’ ITVx last year when we couldn’t find anything at all we wanted to watch. We soon found ourselves watching and enjoying a lot of programmes, but found the adverts always so frequent and repetitive that we decided to pay the £5.99 to watch everything advert free. Especially when Britbox was added.

I can mostly put up with the ads but that dreadful dramatic Cupra car advert drives me insane and I'm finger on the mute immediately. I noticed the ads came thick & fast during Fake mostly without warning so that we were unsure sometimes if it was just another scene in it, until we twigged it had cut to the adverts. You can definitely watch everything on itvx without going ad free.

I watch ITVX for free. Often especially with films there are adverts in something like the first quarter but then the programne progresses advert free.

Spot on DollyRocker- the really annoying Cupra car ad, and the maddening Domino Pizza ads get muted in our house.

LoveToPaint. Ive just watched them all and enjoyed them but no mention of money. It might have worth it though

I can watch Malpractice without paying the fee.

crazyH Sat 10-May-25 19:43:16

Netflix for £5.99 is worth every penny. I don’t mind the ads - it gives me time to make a cuppa

crazyH Sat 10-May-25 19:46:20

P.S. I watch a lot of Documentaries - just watched ‘ A Deadly American Marriage’
