You've probably seen the advert for Pepto Bismol with a load of people in pink singing about Nausea, Heartburn, Upset Stomach and Diarrheaaaaa....lol Do we need to know? I thought that was crazy until I saw one earlier.
It was for Lynx deodorant and it was a woman smelling a mans bum as he was leaving the cinema....what the &*)(*^
Who the hell thinks these ads up?

I saw the lynx one tonight. Thought it was awful. Can’t stand the pee pants woman.
Are we so stupid that we can’t research solutions ourselves if we have a problem with incontinence?

Advertising certainly isn't working for me. Most programmes I record and fast forward through the ads. If I do watch something live I am usually appalled by the poor quality of the ads and make sure I don't buy the product.

I will admit that I loved the Old Spice "I'm the man your man could smell like" ad. And I occasionally look it up on You Tube if I want cheering up.

No I haven’t.

Well advertising doesn’t work on me. I go to the loo or make a drink or just ignore them. I might catch a few but rarely remember which product is being promoted. Some are memorable for all the wrong reasons, mostly TMI.

I was thinking the other day how adverts today are so bad in comparison to years ago when they could be witty and amusing instead of just weird 😐

My son has worked in advertising for over 20 years now and he would say that the fact you are all discussing certain averts on TV means they have done their job. On of their top adverts is the Aldi Christmas Special with Kevin the carrot

If people are talking about an advert because it puts you off buying a product. How is that a success?

We still have a tv, but I rarely watch it, so I have not seen any of the adverts under discussion. I never saw the Kevin the carrot advert either.

Reading this makes me really glad we got rid of our TV years ago!

I’ve REPORTED it. This spammer posted on several threads during the night.

ExDancer Tue 13-May-25 10:30:21

Here it is again - how do I report it?

Calendargirl Mon 12-May-25 17:30:19

I’ve gone off Olivia Colman ever since she won an Oscar and her acceptance speech was rather sweary, as I recall (The film looked awful as well).

I like it when Mr Warburton says at the end of the advert ‘Well, she’s not as nice as everyone says!’

She looks different, thinner in the face.

mrswoo Mon 12-May-25 17:20:50

I've not seen either advert - I'm especially glad I've not seen the Lynx one (and hope I never do, it sounds vile).
However, I'm so grateful to Moonwatcher for naming Pepto Bismol. DH and I had one of those daft "senior" conversations yesterday when we couldn't remember the name of the pink medicine which wasn't Gaviscon (or Calpol).
It was driving us both crazy until today on GN when all was revealed!

Georgesgran Mon 12-May-25 13:58:51

As well as the Lynx ad for the Lower Body, Sure have another deodorant designed for those places that smell, whatever they’re called, wherever!!

Both ads are awful, but any reaction proves the ad has worked, even if negatively received.

hollysteers Mon 12-May-25 13:41:37

“Domino Hoo Hoo” is driving me crazy!😡

Cossy Mon 12-May-25 13:40:07

I hate those two adverts, along with “gush” days for periods and “pee pants” for urine incontinence. I loathe the adverts for deodorants for places other than underarms, as for down one’s pants ….. 🤮

Chocolatelovinggran Mon 12-May-25 13:23:40

I'm enjoying the ad for Warburton's crumpets, featuring Olivia Colman.
On Facebook, Ms Colman is requesting people to volunteer a fake alibi for her for the time when she was raiding the factory.
There has been a number of amusing responses to this - all good fun.

eazybee Mon 12-May-25 07:51:01

The point is, these unpleasant adverts have brought the products to the viewers' attention.
That said, I had no idea of the name of the product the Pepto one was advertising, and I don't think I have seen the Lynx one.

M0nica Mon 12-May-25 07:29:08

I would just advise a bath and clean underwear.

Retread Mon 12-May-25 07:23:21

There seems to be a trend towards "pushing the boundaries" or "breaking taboos" generally- in every second TV series or film there's a scene in which someone is seen to vomit or on the loo. Why? If someone gets out of a car in a scene and walks up to a front door, we don't need to see them knocking on the door to work out what happened before the door was opened!

I'm pleased I haven't seen the bum sniffing ad!

Bellasnana Mon 12-May-25 07:01:00

Haven’t seen the Lynx one but I loathe the Pepto Bismol one which always seems to pop up as I’m eating my dinner.🤢😂

Aldom Mon 12-May-25 06:54:04

I haven't yet seen the Pepto ad. But the Lynx ad. OMG!!!! It is foul.
As Karma said, if a person smells sooo much then they actually need to shower/bathe. It's a stomach churning advertisement in poor taste.

Calendargirl Mon 12-May-25 06:39:12

I’ve seen the Pepto one, but not the Lynx, well if I have I must have tuned out.

TMI comes to mind with many of the adverts.

Standards, dear, standards!

Sara1954 Mon 12-May-25 06:29:00

J haven’t seen any of them, but I do sometimes think when certain adverts come on, that I would have died of embarrassment if I was a teenager, watching with my parents, too much information.

karmalady Mon 12-May-25 06:25:09

pepto bismol ad is amusing, well crafted, entertaining and gets the message across

Lynx advert is awful, common, nasty and degrading to men and teenage boys. Spraying that chemical down their underpants front and back. If you can smell that, it means they never wash

windmill1 Mon 12-May-25 05:05:12

Lord above! What next I wonder?

Advertisements telling us that the world can be our oyster if we use XYZ brand of incontinence protection pants?

What world do these "creatives" in advertising live in?
