Code of Silence

Very good, all the adverts are silent, most with subtitles, emphasising deafness.

I thought this started off well and it had a great cast but the plot got sillier and sillier. Whenever the police told "Alison" to do something, she did the exact opposite, so I had no sympathy for her at all. I stuck with it until the end, hoping for an improvement but it was a big disappointment. Maybe I've watched too many crime dramas.

BlueBelle

I don’t think we should like it just because it’s covering a subject it should cover but I do like it and I think her acting is very very good and realistic (I have a bit of a soft spot for Liam too) however I think they have gone into the fairytale realm in some of the scenes which of course is the writers fault and not the actors at all

I agree with your comments.I tried to like it but just didn’t and once a drama isn’t believable that’s it for me.

BlueBelle Mon 02-Jun-25 15:28:18

Yes I m watching it week by week got to have something to look forward to
I like Liam I thought he was lovely with Rose but then I always did fall for the wrongs guys so no difference there

Maggiemaybe Mon 02-Jun-25 14:51:24

We’re still watching it as it airs as well. I’m looking forward to seeing how it ends tonight.

eazybee Mon 02-Jun-25 13:23:08

I am enjoying it week by week. I was expecting either Rose or Liam to be a double agent. Still time.

Calendargirl Mon 02-Jun-25 13:15:17

Am I the only one still watching this week by week?

Alison arrested after her shenanigans in the hotel, and poor Ben getting shot (I knew that was going to happen when he dashed off to deal with things single handed).

I’ve never taken to Liam, he’s always looked shifty.

And Alison just seems to do the opposite of what she’s told all the time.

Silly girl.

Calendargirl Wed 28-May-25 06:34:03

I think Alison comes across as quite stroppy some of the time.

Says one thing and does another.

Staying the night when she said it was just a day trip. Half truths to the police.

Liam has a shifty look about him all the time.

I just watched it as fiction tbh 😀

I’ve watched it all today, I think it’s brilliant. I don’t think there has been a series before with people who are deaf/hearing impaired as the main family?

I am

I like this and think Rose is great. Maybe a bit far fetched, but I can accept that if I like a programme. I spend all my time worrying that she might get caught.....

Maggiemaybe Tue 27-May-25 07:36:39

That crossed my mind too, Calendargirl. smile

I don’t think the series has lived up to its early promise. As others have said, too much of it is far-fetched. I feel I need to know how it ends though, so we’ll persevere.

Calendargirl Mon 26-May-25 21:50:32

She has a lot of nice clothes considering so hard up.

Charleygirl5 Mon 26-May-25 18:49:51

I agree with BlueBelle. It is so far-fetched that it borders on silly. There are only two more programmes, and what else is there to watch?

Do you know I m not so sure I used to live with a Middle Eastern guy and he was used in a very ad hock basis by the police to interpret I certainly don’t remember any in depth checks before however that was a good while back maybe it’s different today but I agree it did seem very casual
L

I knew a lady who worked as and when required by the Police as an interpreter. She got very well paid and taxied to and from her home to whatever Police Station was involved.

Calendargirl Mon 26-May-25 15:30:57

Agree BlueBelle.

Also whenever she is lip reading the baddies conversations, she keeps turning her head to speak to the police officers. I think “Don’t keep doing that, you will miss half of the conversations!”

And what about her past relationship with the chap from the council, who seems to bend over backwards to help her and her mum, and she doesn’t appreciate it much. Just makes use of him.

The police are failing in their duty of care to her also, letting her get so involved.

BlueBelle Mon 26-May-25 14:01:30

I’ve just watched episode 3 and finding it getting a bit far fetched
When she s listening outside the window amazing how she finds her way there ! She’s holding her phone up to record the conversation someone inside hears a noise comes out to investigate and she’s hiding under a tarpaulin …. now that is far fetched
I m still watching but finding it s getting more and more unlikely
I still like her and the concept and Liams very sweet with her

ayse Thu 22-May-25 21:03:01

I’ve enjoyed the first episode. It demonstrates diversity so well. I’m so pleased to have a drama with a difference and life’s too short to criticise.
Well done ITV.

BlueBelle Mon 19-May-25 19:11:39

DiggingDoris I agree with your husband I cannot read any telephone conversations or notes etc I cannot understand why they can’t be included in the subtitles it really annoys me as you lose a bit of the story …it happens in all dramas

knspol Mon 19-May-25 19:04:08

Shows how much attention I pay to adverts as I watched the entire programme without noticing the adverts were silent.
Thought it was quite OK but surely there was a better story line to be found for suddenly using a kitchen worker as an official interpreter.

Diggingdoris Mon 19-May-25 16:05:22

I enjoyed it and am looking forward to the next one tonight. DH complained all through saying he couldn't read the text quick enough before it disappeared!

rafichagran Mon 19-May-25 15:34:55

I am looking forward to tonight's episode, the silent adverts caught me out too. I asked DP if he had accidently turned the sound down on the remote.

N4nna Mon 19-May-25 15:19:09

Watched the first one on ITV then straight away tuned into ITVX and now binge watching, just watched episode 4, 5 is on pause waiting for hubby to come back from the tip, so tempted to press play 😂🤣😂

Clawdy Mon 19-May-25 08:07:56

Yes, I really like Rose in this, looking forward to tonight's episode.

eazybee Mon 19-May-25 07:20:26

Good so far, different and Rose Ayling-Ellis has such an expressive face, able to portray a range of fleeting emotions.
