Cause of Death

Recently there was a discussion on here about those unfit to drive due to medical i.e eyesight deterioration.

I watched this programme last night on Channel 5...about the deaths of 4 people all involved in road traffic accidents as pedestrians.
This really brought home the need for a mandatory reporting system - as is the case with other issues.

Totally heartbreaking for the victims and their families and totally preventable.

I watched this and I was appalled that none of the drivers admitted liability, even when they did the eye checks! And the one who could only see about 5 cm in front of him and still he drove --- utterly selfish.

I really felt for the families of those killed.

I think that mandatory yearly eye tests should be bought in and if they fail these, then opticians should be able to remove their car keys, as even when they have failed these tests, these men still drove.

CassieJ, it was the total arrogance and disregard of what they had done I found chilling.

I can see your point but it appears they told the opticians they didn't drive or had stopped!

I did wonder if any of the drivers featured, had family members, surely they'd be aware if their relatives could barely see? If so then why not report them to the police - I know without hesitation I would.

I mentioned this before. Our 91 year old neighbour insists she's still fine to drive. We've had an unpleasant argument about it but couldn't shift her view. Just hoping that her two sons prevail as I know they're not happy about either.
Maybe she'll see that programme. I certainly hope so.
