Two iplayer series we’ve found very gripping…

…Dopesick - true story of the epidemic of opioid abuse in America, and the company that kept pushing the drug despite a growing tsunami of evidence - because it was making billions.

And (also true) The Dropout (still watching this one) about the very young woman who supposedly invented a blood testing device (only it didn’t work) and persuaded very big names to back her and invest countless millions of dollars.

Both in our opinion extremely well done/acted - highly recommended.

I loved the Dropout.

I’ve watched both of these, brilliant.

Yes the woman you refer to is Elizabeth Holmes who set up a start-up business called Theranos. She has recently lost her appeal against her sentence.
I agree this was an excellent and mind-boggling series.
I haven't watched the Dopesick one but may give it a go.

Department Q is also very good!

I saw a trailer for Department Q which looked very good but I don’t have Netflix. I need to start watching series 2 of Jack Irish on Ch4 but, having watched 1883 on dvd I now have to rewatch 1923 and may have to buy the box set of Yellowstone ( which I watched some of when it was shown on terrestrial tv). There are so many things I want to watch there aren’t enough hours in a day!

MayBee70 I loved Yellowstone but now also don't have Netflix although Sky keep tempting me back but its still overpriced for me...

I watch too much TV but with health issues and post surgery issues its my constant daily companion!!

I buy everything on dvd which amuses my family.” Mum, nobody watches DVD’s these days shock”. I was always a year behind watching Game of Thrones so I got used to it. I prefer it anyway, as the DVD’s have commentaries etc which I like listening to. There are too many subscription only channels and at any one time there’s only one or two things that I want to watch on each one. When my son stays for a week at Easter I use his membership and catch up with some series. Or if I house sit at my daughters, but she doesn’t need me to do that much now her sons are getting older. I listen to Must Watch on Radio 4 and BBC Sounds to get advice about what to watch and can also go back and listen to reviews from ages ago. I only recently finished watching the last series of Vikings. It never quite filled the gap left by Game of Thrones but, overall was far more satisfying and true to itself.

I’ve rewatched some of GOT and although it’s now 10 years old, I found that I missed some important moments…and with NOW tv, can rewatch all the series again😀
yes I ENJOYED Vikings too but GOT is still one of the best series ever made IMO👏

Dopesick and Dropout both very good.

I've tried Department Q twice now but haven't the faintest idea what's going on confused

I'm watching The Last Anniversary which I'm enjoying but there's a thread about it on here and it seems to be a bit "marmite".

I also watched "Survivors" and really enjoyed that (Netflix).
I generally find Australian films and series 1st class. They have a surprisingly small pool of actors and actresses so you nearly always recognise one or more. This had a mix of people from 5 Bedrooms, 800 Words, After the Party, Jack Irish, Home & Away and even Ten Pound Poms!

I loved it till the last few episodes. I used to rewatch each series several times, would watch the series, then watch it with the commentary and sometimes then watch it again. I loved seeing the locations, costumes etc. But after the last series I haven’t rewatched any of it. I had planned to rewatch the whole series. I’ve never loved a series so much. Because I had to wait for the DVD’s to come out I used to look forward so much to each new series. I still haven’t got over the disappointment of the final series. I even have a folder full of newspaper articles about it. My daughter and I used to talk about it all the time. I felt that characters I’d grown to love had been let down. I’m quite liking House of the Dragon it isn’t in the same league as GOT’s.

My GS is desperate to get me to watch Game of Thrones, but I read all the books and made up my mind that, while they made brilliant reading, they were so violent I wouldn’t want to see that on screen. He’s considering me a work in progress😁.

My favourite tv series of all is The Last Kingdom (read all those books too) but at the moment The Diplomat runs it a close second. I can’t wait for the next series, which will be aired later this year.

Dopesick was brilliant in the way it highlighted the opiate crisis in the US and in particular the way Purdue Pharma targetted poor mining communities. They were an absolute disgrace in evading any culpability for addictions and deaths. Well worth a watch.

Greyduster my DD said I would hate GOT because of the language and nude scenes in many episodes .. but I loved it as was so different a genre for me and 😀got me hooked!!
What that says about me I don’t know

Loved Dopesick and The Dropout so well acted and absorbing.
