I seem to be the only person in UK who doesn't like the Richard Osman Thursday Murder Club, though I do find Osman himself entertaining. I like Richard Coles Canon Clement Mystery series.

Both are being filmed currently. Will they be like the books? Do I see Pierce Brosnan in Thursday Murder Club?

No, you are not alone. I, too, have read all the Thursday Murder Clubs, but not enjoyed them. Kept trying to as they got rave reviews.

Cannot warm to any of the characters, thought the plots far fetched and frankly silly. I won’t be watching the tv series as we don’t have Netflix, but think the casting is not right for most of the parts.

I have also read the Richard Coles books, in fact just collected ‘A Death On Location’ yesterday from the library. The latest one, only out this month.

They are not bad, some better than others, the monastery one I found a bit boring.

Have seen pictures of the chap playing Canon Clements, he looks suitable for the part.

Time will tell.

a bit .......

I thought it was very similar to Marlow Murders - totally unbelievable (as if the police would discuss in detail an ongoing case with members of the public). Don't think I'll bother watching any more episodes, I just found it silly.

Oh, I bit like Madame Blanc then 😁

Glad my ‘disappointing’ verdict was not just me being picky!

Chardy Fri 20-Jun-25 20:19:36

I switched it off after 25 minutes, I thought it was embarrassingly awful. And I like Phyllis Logan

adrisco Fri 20-Jun-25 18:57:04

Really disappointing. I like Phyllis Logan, but didn't enjoy this at all.

Crossstitchfan Fri 20-Jun-25 18:54:42

I gave it a try because I do like Phyllis Logan. Had to give up though as I thought it was boring beyond belief. I can’t understand why an actor of Ms Logan’s calibre would even entertain the idea of starring in this rubbish.
I haven’t seen her in much lately, though. Maybe she’s desperate?

Looked feeble so didn’t watch.

Dottydots Fri 20-Jun-25 16:29:20

Oh dear, I recorded it but haven't watched it yet. Sounds as if I shouldn't have bothered.

Grandmabatty Fri 20-Jun-25 16:08:21

It didn't do much for me, I'm afraid. I liked the idea of an elderly woman beating them all. She wasn't played as a sweet old dear and I liked that too. I think she should have been much more astringent. The obligatory drinking, smoking and swearing wasn't shocking. The policeman over acted dreadfully

Celieanne86 Fri 20-Jun-25 14:57:02

Can’t say what I thought as I fell asleep after snout 20 minutes but I have recorded it so will try again.

Visgir1 Fri 20-Jun-25 13:14:34

It really didn't know what direction to go in? Strange programme, it was a mish mash of styles.
Phyllis Logan was channeling her inner Prue Leith ( nice clothes, necklaces and earings) she had her obvious brainy neice with issues, added to that a usless Police force, a Mayor who was poking around, a local press hound, plus other ad hoc people.
Tbh at times it was funny and hearing "Mrs Hughes" swearing was priceless!
However not sure we will venture into this program again?

Calendargirl Fri 20-Jun-25 13:01:22

Glad it wasn’t just me.

Why did Mrs Hughes agree to be in such tripe?

Did she and Mr Carter need a new kitchen or something?

Aldom Fri 20-Jun-25 12:26:49

I also fell asleep grin and turned the programme off at 9.30 and went to bed.

Homestead62 Fri 20-Jun-25 12:23:54

The trailer was enough for me, it looked absolute guff so didn't bother with it.

I started watching this on Channel 5 last night with not very high hopes.

Starring Phyllis Logan as a crossword puzzler setter, and drafted in as a murder solver (all these amateurs).

I fell asleep half way through, didn’t find it riveting.

A cross between Murder She Wrote, Death Valley, and that Marlow Murders with Samantha Bond.

A while ago I borrowed one of the books from the library upon which the series is based but couldn’t get into it.

What did anyone else think? Unsure if I will even bother rewatching the first episode.
