Outrageous (The Mitford family)

Deborah Devonshire’s autobiography “Wait for Me!” is a very readable account of her family, the Mitfords. She was the youngest of the sisters.

Watched first episode and loved I’d. Being in Derbyshire and loving to visit Chatsworth which was made so wonderful by Deborah Mitford.The Duchess of Devonshire

I knew nothing about this story. Binge watched the lot! Brilliant! Good casting. Wow just loved it. 👍

Didn’t Judy Dench and Michael Williams play the parents some years ago which was great? Michael Williams kept calling people “Sewers”. It was so good. Doubt this new one will beat It.

Watched the first two episodes really enjoying it.
Have watched The pursuit of love and can recommend that also.

Did anyone notice the scene in the first episode when you see Moseley gave one of his speeches, did he remind you of a certain politician of today? Might this be a lesson to us all of how things can progress so easily.
I am enjoying , they all seem a little mad as the aristocracy are so often portrayed.

I'm liking it too. I don't really know much about the Sisters, but got the background from Google.
Years ago I saw a musical called the Mitford girls but don't remember much about it.

I'm glad I could point you all in the direction to watch it ! I haven't got to the end of it myself but I'm really enjoying it and glad I persevered with it.

I think it seems very true to life, having read biographies of the family over the years and as 62Granny says, they are all a 'Little mad' !!

Judi Dench played Muv in Love in a Cold Climate and Michael Aldridge played Farv. Michael Williams was Uncle Davey who was married to one of Muv's sisters.
Farv frequently threatened to attack people with his entrenching tool.
Love in a Cold Climate was written by Nancy and based on her family

This is where Unity lived when she returned to the UK. It’s no longer a vicarage, the house and extensive grounds having been sold many years ago.

Have just watched the first 3 episodes and am hooked! Brilliant writing and cast. James Purefoy and Anna Chancellor are excellent as the parents. Thanks for the recommendation.

I saw some of it tonight whilst channel hopping. I hadn’t realised it was on a free channel. There are so many channels these days. I wish I’d watched it from the beginning.

I read a lot about the Mitfords, and all Nancy's books many years ago so I'm thoroughly enjoying it, The costumes are lovely and the decor is very reminiscent of my grandparents' house, which hadn't changed at all in the 50s. My mother loved the idea of putting names in a drawer - although nobody died when she did! I'd completely forgotten the entrenching tool!

My mother and I (as a baby) lived at Swinbrook at the tail end of the war. My mother told me that she rembered Unity walking round aimlessly talking to herself, after she had tried to comit suicide. Poor soul had severely injured herself but not succeeded in death. I'm loving Outrageous and only wish I'd been of an age to recognise Unity all those years ago!

Excellent production. I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I did already know about the Mitford family but it's lovely to see them all in the 1930s setting. It's very well done.

I read the book of letters between the sisters a few years ago, it was fascinating. Unity's letters from Germany after she met Hitler were so disturbing - the number of times she referred to him as "sweet" or "so sweet".
The casting is good, they all look very similar to the photos of the family in the book.

I thought I knew a lot about the Mitfords but until I watched Outrageous it hadn't occurred to me that Unity was probably on the autistic spectrum

Haven't seen it yet and looking forward to doing so.
I've read a lot about the extraordinary Mitford sisters .

I'm so sorry I've now seen all the episodes. I really enjoyed this excellent series. It gives me hope for other drama productions!
