The News

I try to avoid it if I can. It's so depressing and I think a lot of it is dramatised out of all proportion.
When someone dies is an example. It's sad when anyone dies whether it's someone famous or just an ordinary member of the public. Then they drag it on like they will interview people who will say oh I met them and they will be missed when they probably met them once years ago. Or they will speak to someone at the local shop for their views.
One example is about the little girls killed in Southport last year. A horrendous event and I can't imagine what their parents and famlies went through. But let them grieve in peace. The news is still going on about it. They were interviewing 3 policemen yesterday on the local news about their thoughts.

Yes, the news is utter saturation depression.

Also, the BBC seems to have a absolute wealth of Correspondents for all categories of news, the usual crop of 'experts' on hand (usually retired politicians) who can drone at an Olympic level making the content even more dreary. Still, they have to earn their fee, I suppose.

Same here. I used to have it on all day too but now it’s just constant tension. I miss when you’d get a quirky doc or a bit of whimsy in the middle of the day. It’s like they forgot listeners need a breather.

I haven’t got a television but used to have the radio on for much of the day. I listen to Radios 3 and 4.
Radio 4 nowadays seems to be overwhelmingly news bulletins, hour-long news programs and serious stuff. I like informative programs but also want something light-hearted or funny.
The news is just awful, war, politics and violence. I don’t listen any more, choosing the news I want to read from the BBC news app.
I don’t think I’m getting value for money from my TV licence, which I need to watch a few things on I Player and less and less on the radio.
