I watched the second episode last night on catch up because Saturday night TV is so dire.
Didn’t bother with the first.
It got me thinking that this would be an ideal reality competition show for oldies. Why does everything have to be aimed at the young?

We wouldn’t have to do anything except sit on a coach and natter. We could take our knitting or play board games.
Shame about the blacked out windows but we’d solve the clues in a flash - unlike the dim contestants who don’t seem to have much of a grasp of languages or European geography.

I take my hat off to the two guys who abseiled out of their cable cars though….I think we’d have to pass on that one.

My biggest challenge would be clambering in and getting out of the bunk beds and I think we’d need more than one tiny loo!! 😂😂

So do you think the beeb would go for it? 😂😂

I think they might be in Genoa (Genova.) The words on the wall in the square, Soit a pied a chevalier is the motto of the Regiment of Genova. I looked it up. Although there was a gondola and several other clues to Venice.
All will be revealed tonight.
I'm enjoying Destination X.

Once out of France, and German speaking countries, I'm not so knowledgeable.
I think Northern Italy, but not Venice.

I gave up didn’t really enjoy it

We did too. Watched the first two and just couldn't get into it at all. Found those taking part either boring or irritating.

OldFrill Thu 14-Aug-25 05:27:57

Where are they?

Devorgilla Sat 09-Aug-25 21:14:27

I'm enjoying it too. I like watching the interaction between participants and their alignments and reasons for switching. Yes, the places are easy to spot if you know the terrain but perhaps less so when they venture outside the norm. As I said before, it's an easy frolic for the silly season. Roll on the start of term. We will soon have more sport to complain about. Meanwhile I am having withdrawal symptoms from no real political programmes.

I am enjoying it so I’m sorry so many are dismissive.

You're enjoying it so you can't understand why others may not? confused

I started watching, saw someone moaning because she'd broken nail and that was me finished!!

petra Thu 07-Aug-25 07:57:45

I kept thinking that it was a double bluff as it was sooooo obvious.

Who doesn't know that clogs are associated with Amsterdam, Holland?
Who doesn't know their way round a foreign menu, (usually the only thing we Brits are good at!)?
Oktoberfest was the big clue. It is held on the
Theresienwiese which is a big open space, not in a stadium.

I found it a bit tedious last night. I'd guessed it at the beginning. I like Munich. I've been several times after working there as a Gastarbeiter in a youth hostel, one university holiday for 3 months - cleaning toilets, corridors, and scraping weeds from between paving slabs with a knife! 🤮

Pittcity Thu 07-Aug-25 07:44:34

I watched episode 3 and probably won't bother with the rest. The destination was simple to guess and there was very little to keep my attention. The inside of a blacked out bus is not compelling TV.

Allira Tue 05-Aug-25 11:23:32

They're just not the same any more ☹
Not even made in Switzerland.

escaped Tue 05-Aug-25 11:21:07

Am I right in thinking that the Matterhorn is no longer on the Toblerone bars? I need ho check next time I go shopping.

Allira Tue 05-Aug-25 11:20:01

"Who doesn't know where Colmar is?"

This could become "Who doesn't know their L'Arse from their Elba?"

DrWatson Tue 05-Aug-25 01:49:37

I caught up with the first 2 episodes, I think I saw somewhere that this is the 2nd series, but If so I completely missed the first.

Those first 2 shows have made it clear that this will be an irritating watch for those of us who have been abroad quite a bit, the woman who got booted off the first episode had been given an extra clue ("Colmar"), but hadn't the wit to use it. What a good idea to go on a geography based game show and not bother to look at some maps first?

In the 2nd show, the contestant who is a nuclear scientist (?? Lord help us all?!) saw a clue that was an anagram of Matterhorn, and helpfully didn't read it properly, repeating the error several times (any of the others could have corrected her, only one at most noticed).

One of the ten contestants left partway through episode one, having apparently not read enough of the notes to work out that they'd be on a coach for a while, not getting the delights of home cooking!

For me the main problem of the show is almost constantly hearing Rob Brydon's super-smug voice-over, or his patronising little speeches to or about the contestants. At least they didn't pick Sara Pascoe, I suppose, now reinstated to try and make Sewing Bee unwatchable again! (record it, then speed through her bits . . .).

DrWatson Tue 05-Aug-25 01:37:17

For Escaped, and your "Who doesn't know where Colmar is?
Who doesn't realise that CH plastered over everything is Switzerland?" . . .I wouldn't put your knowledge and travel history on many folk at all ?!

Geography is a lost topic for a huge chunk of the population, this can be seen on almost any quiz show, true for many years! Oh, and this doesn't have to be foreign locations, the ignorance of our own country is also quite amazing.

Dottydots Mon 04-Aug-25 18:41:33

I think I might be sick travelling along with all the windows blacked out.

Babamaman Mon 04-Aug-25 17:58:52

I found it boring! What is the point? I watched something (can’t remember what) onU!
TV is dire at the moment. Repeats, fake news! Emergency things?
Standard is horrendous. Then they are pumping the strictly come back! 😡🤬🥴👎
Oh dear! I do like Anna Pririe - she is brilliant.
That’s my rant

Gogo84 Mon 04-Aug-25 16:15:43

None of them seem to have heard of The Matterhorn. That clue was so easy.

Mojack26 Mon 04-Aug-25 15:53:21

Agree tv is direct at the moment! Usual summer rubbish. Sorry I loathe game shows, that and soaps are all that seem to be on

escaped Sun 03-Aug-25 22:56:29

I can't remember which tv series/recipe book it was in, but I'm sure Rick Stein visited Colmar. The recipe could well have been a sort of sauerkraut and sausage?

Allira Sun 03-Aug-25 22:40:36

BlueBelle

I didn’t know either Allira

Oh, thank goodness.

Our French Mam'selle at school was from Alsace, perhaps I should have known. She was a student, only there for a term to help us with our French Conversation before our orals.

BlueBelle Sun 03-Aug-25 18:32:20

I didn’t know either Allira

Allira Sun 03-Aug-25 17:23:16

I was feeling a bit travel sick anyway, it's disorienting not being to see where you're going.

As for all the clicking of knitting needles and shouts of triumph when anyone wins at Snakes and Ladders, I can't get a wink of sleep.

I'm stopping off to explore Colmar 😂
