Patience - streaming on Channel 4

I spotted a post on Facebook which directed me to this crime drama. It’s about a young autistic woman who works in the criminal records office and starts assisting the police with crime solving thanks to her forensic puzzle solving ability and single minded focus on the investigation.
The subject of autism in girls plays a large part of the storyline with flashbacks to her childhood and good relationship with her father, sadly deceased.
The slow growing friendship between Patience and the lead female detective is touching especially as the men not only resent her talents but are often openly hostile.

I’ve watched five episodes and I’m completely hooked!!

It’s streaming on Channel 4.

We thoroughly enjoyed this, I hope they make another series.

Thanks merlotgran! I doubt I would have seen this had you not pointed it out. It’s good!

We watched it when it was first televised in January and really enjoyed it.

It's the English version of the French series Astrid, which came out a few years ago. There are slight differences but both enjoyable.

I think this is a version of a French language series, Astrid in Paris, also on Channel 4. I much prefer the original French series, Astrid is ‘more autistic’ (hope this is a correct description, don’t want to offend anyone) and the rest of the cast are so good, especially Raphaelle the police inspector, William her friend from a support group, and of course Tetsuo.
I can’t recommend it highly enough.

You might like Karen Pirie itv. So good. Kept us both hooked . Good acting too

I loved it too. Apparently the second series is due to be released in 2026, but with Jessica Haynes replacing Lisa Fraser as the detective.

Sorry that should be Astrid murder in Paris

flump Tue 12-Aug-25 15:45:30

Yes, I do think Astrid has the slight edge and agree about the other characters.

I watched this on TV quite a few months ago, very touching, I enjoyed it a lot. Glad to hear there may be a second series.

Another vote for Astrid Murder in Paris… MUCH superior to Patience, which is an English language version. It’s a shame they decided to do this English version so close to the original in my opinion. Why not leave it for longer?
It is quite good on its own but not when compared to the original

Ohh no! The Karen Pirie thing was awful. She is charmless & lacking in all aspects of charisma & star-quality.
Never have I turned over a channel so quickly. 🤔

Karen Pirie- my usual moan about books turned into tv/films.

She looks nothing like the KP described in the books.

It was a brilliant series! Maybe on about 6 months back. Hope they do another

merlotgran Tue 12-Aug-25 20:49:46

Goodness knows how I missed it first time round. It’s the kind of drama that would definitely be on my radar.

I hope there’s another series.

I watched and enjoyed it too. We have a family member with autism so always watch anything relating to autism. It helps me understand the condition better. .

Babamaman Thu 14-Aug-25 14:04:27

It’s copied from a French series called “Astrid in Paris”
Also brilliant on 4 I think - distributed by WalterH
So sad the series is finished now

FranP Thu 14-Aug-25 15:05:30

I saw a few and then lost them, so thank you. I loved Dougie Howser MD too

TwinLolly Thu 14-Aug-25 15:47:39

The French Version is "Astrid Et Raphaelle". We have watched all 5 seasons for now with English subtitles, and enjoyed it. There is a season 6 to come out, that we are waiting for. We found the French version is slightly better.

Azalea99 Thu 14-Aug-25 17:17:07

Like some others, I definitely preferred the French version
