Breaking News: Dani Dyer is out of Strictly already. She fractured her ankle during rehearsals.

The producers have already brought in one sub to replace someone (sorry, can't remember his name) who had to back out before it even started. I wonder if they have more than one sub waiting to step in?

I love Claudia and her quick witted humour. I liked her on Sewing Bee too, back in the day. Not keen on Tess but her actual minutes on screen are not long. I'd quite like a change of judges except for Craig - everyone appreciates his constructive criticism.

I enjoy the clothes, the music, the dancing, and watching people's progress. Sometimes I'm in tears, as with Chris McCausland.

Crossstitchfan Claudia wears her fringe long as she is conscious of her lazy eye, which she has had several surgeries on.

The fringe disguises this and makes her feel less self conscious.

I would say it's not as enjoyable as it used to be years ago but I still watch it as like GG my mum loved it.

The so called 'Strictly curse' and all the stuff about Giovanni haven't helped. Still miss him as he was such a good dancer.

I'll be watching for the actual dancing.

When you've got 15 celebrities (and I use the term loosely) 15 professional dancers, 4 judges and 2 presenters, they're not likely going to be pleasing all of the people all of the time.

It's mindless, harmless, lighthearetd and quite engaging viewing for the colder , darker Saturday evenings. Beats all those other programmes with orange pouty girls and orange "look at my muscles" blokes. (And Ant & Dec)

Strictly for me is ruined by the ghastly presenters, (and Motsi!) They all get on my nerves and their inane comments make me cringe. I find Claudia’s fringe really annoying. Done to draw attention to herself, I suppose? She can’t possibly think it looks good. I saw an old photo of her from years ago. No fringe and she looked amazing! She is beautiful under that dreadful hairstyle.
Motsi’s voice is like fingernails down a blackboard! I know she can’t help it, but why do producers hire people who are so difficult to listen to? They are to blame.
I always record it so I can fast-forward the irritating bits. They seem to be increasing as the weeks go on and I think that soon, I will be able to condense it into an hour! Quite long enough!

Only just spotted this thread, page 4 already!! I knew someone would have started one on Strictly, & recognise some of you from previous years, (or maybe from Dancing on Ice ).

I've always enjoyed Strictly, the music & clothes. Takes me through autumn nicely! I'll get to know the celebrities!

I love watching the dancers improve week by week, or not…

It is a link with my dear mum, who watched it from the start, I find it somewhat comforting on a winters Saturday evening.

Used to love this programme but not so the last couple of series. Never got into all the hype and gossip around it and never watched the nightly spin off programme just really enjoyed the dancing and seeing how the contestants improved and especially loved seeing the professionals perform.
What I've done recently is record it and then just fast forwarded through all the 'rubbish' and only watched the actual dances and only listened to the comments from Shirley and Craig. Cut out all the interviews, practice sessions, Claudia's inane questions, and the effusive remarks from Motsi and Anton and it can all be condensed into a very short time.

There's an inner dancer in almost everyone. A lot depends on the teacher/professional getting the best from the ordinary person.

I wonder if it would make a good show with "ordinary" people?

I agree with kittylester. If you look back at some of the early series now, most of the celebrities that appeared then have disappeared from public view, so I think each series is of the moment. By week 3 I never care who they are anyway, I decide who I’m rooting for regardless of if I knew them before or not - I’ve often favoured people I’d never heard of, and really not liked ones I knew beforehand and thought I’d get behind.

Surely, the youngsters are likely to know the new generation of celebrities which keeps it current and, as I said above, some of my daughters and granddaughters watch it.

Things move on - we should too.

Yes, but Strictly is yearly, and celebrity (at least back in 2004) is based on being in the public eye for, give or take, a decade, so they were always going to run short of crowd-pleasers as celebs.

Plus, the sportspeople don't always do so well, & being the competitive people they are, probably think twice about going on just for the experience.
Overall I prefer it since Bruce, he was of his time etc but that fake sincerity never went down well with me.

What I don't like about Strictly Come Dancing, apart from the silly title, is the way everybody has to pretend to be so nice and that they are all such good friends and will remain friends for life. Who do they think they are kidding?

I managed 15 mins as I like Nicky out of Emmerdale but like him or not I just couldn’t stand all the awful OTT buzz it’s all so false and unreal …so I did give it another go and did try again, but nah not for me at all I ll leave it to you fans

I knew 7 at the start of last year's Strictly. I know 9 this year

But I like that DD will know 9, but a different 9! That's how it crosses the generations.

However I do record it and fast forward through the bits I personally find boring. I try to finish when the programme finishes so if I want to, I can vote online.

Time to call it a day on this show. It's tedious and stale now. Also too much sleaze and scandal attached to it. Although the latter may increase the viewing figures.
