I have just finished watching this on Netflix and enjoyed it.
It didn’t make the same impression on me that the book made, Richard Osman seems uniquely able to get inside the heads of his characters, but an enjoyable afternoon’s viewing.
I’m not sure it would have achieved the hype and critical acclaim it will no doubt enjoy, though, if it had not had such a stellar cast!

We watched it last night. I thought it was OK, I haven't read the books.
DH was not so impressed.
A great cast but I thought the storyline a little lacking in substance.

It certainly wasn’t a care home, it was “ elderly living” and I don’t live in an expensive property area but those apartments would cost considerably more than a million here.
Artistic license was certainly needed

Watched it without any expectations and found it light hearted and entertaining, quite comedic. Acting was a bit hammy in parts, Pierces accent. Hmmm. I loved Helen Mirren with her Queen Elizabeth parody. I thought it was definitely an antidote to all the dark depressing crime detective stuff. If only all care homes were as lovely.

I enjoyed it, Good acting by Mirren, Imrie p, Kingsley and Brisnan and others. Good parts for older actors.

Watched this afternoon, enjoyed it, especially the Cat Stevens songs at the end!

Haven't read the books

Just watched the movie, absolutely loved it, wasn't expecting it to be so amusing

Guess I'm not trying to be as intelligently superior as some lol

Obviously not as I can't even spell lol

I have watched this this evening as I was in on my own.
I really enjoyed it, forgot about the book so it was all new,.
I thought the casting was spot on.
A good Saturday night.
The glass or two of red helped but I would have enjoyed it anyway.

Just finished watching it, with initially reluctant husband, we both "leaned into it" 😂 and thus, thoroughly enjoyed it.

It was a pleasant 2 hours entertainment but, as others have mentioned, they seem to have messed it up with Bogdan.

I enjoyed the books, (waiting for the fifth one to be released)

The film was easy watching and entertaining.

I do not need my mind to be challenged constantly, I do not need blood, sex or violence every couple of minutes, in books or on tv/film.

I always find Piers Brosnan gorgeous…

I agree - I'm fed up with blood, sex and gore!

Pierce Bosnan is still easy on the eye but not sure that he's rough diamond Ron, although Tom Ellis was good as Jason - he's not a Londoner either but his accent was much better than his screen Dad's.

I enjoyed the books and have read all of them . I haven’t seen the film yet . I was happy with the casting except Pierce Brosnan as Ron. After the first book I thought Dennis Waterman would make a good Ron , but he’s since died .

NannieChicken Sat 30-Aug-25 20:51:59

I really enjoyed the books and the film. I can't settle to Pierce Brosnan as Red Ron though. The other characters are spot on.
If they intend a sequel they are going to have to sort out the Bogdan issue!

Just watched it loved it! Love a city murder hope they do a sequel!

I felt that the story is squeezed into the 2 hour movie without enough time for character development. OK movie but stiff and not as funny as the book.

Yes your comment has nailed it. Still worth seeing, but a lot was missed out.

I gave up after about 20 minutes.

Dee25 Sat 30-Aug-25 19:23:23

How I so agree -The book was awful, and the film much the same. I watched it for ten minutes...

Haven't read the books so had no pre conceived ideas about the characters, but I have just finished watching it and it was fine for a wet Saturday afternoon.

I haven't read them either, so just took it as I found it.

Like GrannyGravy I don't need intellectual challenge all the time. TV as entertainment is fine by me.

Now having watched it all I found it weak and not at all gripping or funny.
If I compare it to knives out then it is a very very poor second.
There is talk of a second film. I will not care if there is.
