DD and I went to see it at the cinema on Friday. We've both read all the books and loved them, although she is beginning to call me Joyce and demand cakes. OK it's not great cinema, but it's fun, the cast is great, and we just enjoyed seeing characters we loved brought to life, I don't know if they plan to make anymore but they have left themselves with a bit of a problem with Bogdan if they do. People who have read the book will know what I mean when they watch it.

Deedaa are you talking about the actor who plays Bogdan? I've loved the books but haven't seen the film. The actor looks entirely wrong to me - Bogdan should be a hunk!

I read the books and they were no more than pleasant cosy reading, the sort of book to read when you don’t want too much mind bending.

The film was disappointing.

I read the first 2 books but kept losing the thread so i didn't proceed to the 3rd .
I watched a hour last night and enjoyed it and more importantly I could see it clearly and hear it without needing sub titles which I fear would not be the case had it been on the BBC.

Have earmarked this evening to watch the film on Netflix, it does have a great cast.The only thing about book versus film is that a book has a character’s inner monologue whereas a film is more plot driven.

I wasn't a great fan of the book, but have to say I enjoyed the film more. At least I was able to keep track of which character was which this time.

Didn’t rate the book. It’s on my DNF pile. Thought I’d give the film a try. I expect we’ll finish watching it, but I was relieved when a family WhatsApp interrupted it just after the policewoman was told she’d have to stay for at least an hour.

Read half of the book and became bored so gave up. 😝

I too thought it was Highclerc (Downton Abbey)!!

Just started watching it, it looks like Highclare rather than a retirement place!

We’ve got friends coming over for lunch and the film, it’ll be fun.

I don’t have Netflix here at our seaside abode but will have to wait until we get back to Essex. I really couldn’t get on with the book, although many loved it, but I’m looking forward to watching the film.

I love Richard Osman. So witty, clever and quick .

What a waste of good actors

I’ve just had to abandon it on TV after 20 minutes. What a waste of good actors. The characters appear cardboard and hard to invest in. I didn’t rate the book but thought I’d give the film a try.

Agree Primrose53 - gave up after 1st couple of chapters.
Never got the hype.

I'll look forward to this for my Saturday afternoon TV. I like cosy crime although I don't like Richard Osman.

The book was awful, considering how hyped up it was so I won’t be watching.

I’ve just watched it. I suppose it’s no worse than the other cosy crime dramas that seem to proliferate at the moment.

I have watched half - had to break off to make food etc and am going back to watch the second half shortly.

I have found it quite enjoyable so far, I'm not sure it will win Baftas but is definitely fun to watch. Some of the characters are portrayed to be quite silly but then I suppose it is a comedy.

I’ve just watched it and enjoyed it, despite the poor reviews. The media are calling it ‘cosy crime’ but it is very watchable. I agree that it might not have had as much attention if it hadn’t been written by Richard Osman and didn’t have such a stellar cast. I think it helped having read the book first.

I am saving TMC for the weekend when I can sit and enjoy it without any distractions.
