Happy days.
Bake off, with all its thrills and spills, is back. This year's contestants all seem to have a good sense of humour. Lots of laughs in last night's programme from bakers and judges alike.

Shame about certain presenters though! Otherwise I might have continued watching it, as I do like Pru.

I only watched the end as I had time to waste. It seemed a lot of fun and people were having to bake in searing heat.
I was astonished at their skill.
Not sure it is on my list of things to keep watching though...

Oh, do tell. Who don't you like?

I've always enjoyed Bake Off but it seems to be getting sillier every year and more about the presenters than the bakers. What was all that dinosaur nonsense about?

I prefer Sewing Bee these days. Still lighthearted but more focused on the sewers and their creations.

Really pleased a new series has started. This one will have skill based themes rather than the ones where a traditional national dish is recreated.
I’m looking forward to the week where bakers make everything by hand rather than using mixers and blenders.
I like the presenters and judges, and this set of contestants seem a pleasant, cheery group.

The challenges seemed ridiculously difficult for the first week. No wonder most efforts were a complete mess.

Thanks for the reminder I will know when to switch the tv off !.

Personally I think it’s been on for too long and time to stop making it.

Washerwoman Wed 03-Sept-25 15:42:14

Well I still enjoy it and although unsure about Alison as a presenter but actually find her warm and funny. They do seem a nice bunch of balers so that's my Tuesday evening viewing sorted.

I loved it. The Swiss rolls were amazing. I like the presenters. I particularly love Pru's sense of style.

These stupid comedy beginnings are ridiculous. I assume the programme makers are trying to capture the pre-school viewing audience hmm.

Be warned! You did ask!
It’s easier to say who I DO like, and that is just Pru. I think she is sensible compared to the others. I find Paul Hollywood condescending and up his own ar*e, Noel gives me the creeps (don’t know why), I tolerate Alison , but don’t particularly like her.
So there you have it! Perhaps it’s a cookery thing, I didn’t like Mary Berry either! Sorry!

Yes that beginning was stupid.

SPOILER ALERT!

So glad Jasmine won. She was consistently good. Easily the best ever baker on GBBO.

MollyNew Tue 04-Nov-25 21:54:34

Yes, the right person won. Despite Noel and Alison being their usual annoying selves with their wooden spoon puppets.

merlotgran Tue 04-Nov-25 21:57:26

Noel and Alison were worse than ever this series. 😡😡

NanKate Tue 04-Nov-25 22:00:23

I’ve cracked the best way to watch the series, that is for me. I only watched the Final and thoroughly enjoyed it. I can’t bear the inane humour of Alison and Noel, they embarrass me and spoil the show.

The right person won imo.

PS I found Noel’s trousers far too tight. 😳

Grannynannywanny Tue 04-Nov-25 22:03:36

Jasmin was a deserving winner. She was always a step ahead of the others. Having said that Tom’s final cake was beautiful.

I don’t know how Tom kept his nerve when Alison and Noel were clowning around him when he was at a crucial stage of decorating his cake. They’re not nearly as funny as they think they are and I wish someone would tell them to rein it in.

Sarnia Wed 05-Nov-25 08:48:36

Jasmine was the one of the best bakers they have had on Bake Off. I was glad she won. Not only did she win what must be a gruelling competition but she was taking her medical exams at the same time. She came across as a lovely, smiley lady with only good things to say about the others.

ferry23 Wed 05-Nov-25 09:26:16

Good result. I didn't think she was as ambitious with her ideas and her flavours, but playing it a bit safer meant that she was consistently good.

I love those that come along with interesting and a bit left of centre flvours and concepts but that inevitably leads to them being great one week and crashing the next.

I did feel sorry for Tom and his citric acid blooper - I wonder if that would have made a difference because his cake was wonderful.

I hope he programme makers finally wake up to the fact that not many 5 year olds watch it and cut out the playtime stuff next year.

ixion Wed 05-Nov-25 10:16:26

I thought that Tom's show stopper wasn't completely decorated along the back face (the side away from the judges), so unfinished?
No green icing along its length? 🤔

Bukkie Wed 05-Nov-25 18:58:33

Ixion - I noticed Tom's cake wasn't decorated along the back and kept willing the judges to walk around the cake. Jasmine was the deserved winner for her consistency. I think I might be alone liking Alison and Noel. I find them warm, caring and funny.

charley68 Wed 05-Nov-25 20:23:19

I loved it this year too. All the contestants were so lovely, and the final three were great. Great final cakes too, and Jasmine a worthy winner.

I did wonder about the 'after party" though! It seemed to pour with rain during the bake, but all dry and sunny for the tea party.

lixy Wed 05-Nov-25 20:28:19

bukkie I’m with you. Alison and Noel make me giggle too. I think they do a lot of behind the scenes nurturing too.

Really pleased that Jasmine won.
