Inter Allia, National Theatre on cinema

I really rate NTL live theatre streamed through cinemas and such good value for money and I go to as many as I can that appeal. I saw Jodie Cromer live in London in Prima Facie and she was utterly brilliant and mesmerising, and the audience comments as we were leaving the theatre were fascinating, particularly from the men. She deservedly had a standing ovation. But it did cost over £200 for tickets and train fare, several years ago now, not including tube and meal. I was so pleased Jodie won the Oliver best actress award and then later a Tony award for her Broadway show. I even went see her again in the cinema version as you get much closer facial close up images, though can lack the "live audience buzz" just a little.

I did go and see Interalia at my local cinema a couple of weeks ago. I enjoyed it and Rosamund Pike is a great actress but for me the play was not quite as raw, brilliant or as mesmerising as Prima Facie. Susie Millar wrote both plays- she's on a roll with her gripping stories.

We tried NT at home, it didn’t work well for us. Too much buffering, poor transmission, difficulty getting in to the site plus our screen is probably too small for the experience.
On top of that we’ve seen virtually everything on the site that we are interested in and they don’t add much regularly. It was okay during lockdown when there wasn’t any alternative, but now we can get out it’s not worth it for us.

I love live streams. They’re not like film and not quite like watching live theatre, but they do make National Theatre truly national.
I couldn’t afford to see these shows live - not at over £200 each for rail travel each way (on a railcard) and overnight accommodation plus the price of the ticket. It would cost over a thousand pounds for my husband and myself just to see one play. With live streaming we can walk to the cinema and watch for around £30 so we can see all that we want.

Watched Prima Facie three times, it was that good and looking forward to Inter Alia next

Watch from the comfort of your home and if you only watch one production a week, it works out at just under £2.00 per show! Bargain! There's nothing like attending live theatre but when access and distance are a problem, this is the next best thing.

I agree, it’s great to see these shows. The first one that I saw was The Cherry Orchard. It was wonderful.

I too was astonished at how Rosamund Pike sustained what was effectively a one-woman play. Truly an outstanding feat, extraordinary to watch.
The first part of the play irritated me rather; the juggling mother and the generation gap have been done over and again and most of us have been there. And I couldn't see why Jessica had that extremely senior job at that point.
In the second half, the reason became entirely clear. The tension between legal and moral obligations was well brought out and the end was really moving.
Now I want to see the earlier play, Prima Facie.

Love the NT Live productions but haven't seen this one yet. Looking forward to the upcoming Imelda Staunton in 'Mrs Warren's Profession'. Also love the Met Opera Live series.

Don't miss it Oreo RP is brilliant in it, I just don't know how she finds the energy to sustain the performance (same with Jodie Comer) she's never off stage.

I had read about Inter Alia being really good, and I like Rosamond Pike as an actor so may make the effort to go see it.

I love National production sat cinemas. We have just moved somewhere where the Cine Centre is wthin walking distance and we have been twice since we moved here, although our preferred viewing is opera from the Met or Covent Garden

Did you see "Prima Facie,*Homestead*? Jodie Comer was utterly brilliant, so much so that I'm going to see it agin, but live this time. I was so shocked to see that the cinema was nearly empty. I hope other cinemas were better attended.

I really enjoyed it Foxie, brilliant acting throughout and great story. I'm nowhere near London and being able to walk 15 or so minutes down the road to see these plays is great. I'm going to see the ballet in the cinema in November too.
