‘Annika’ - Nicola Walker …No Season 3

First of all, I like Nicola Walker and enjoyed Unforgotten and other dramas she’s been in but Annika not so much.

This was very light drama. The crimes were almost incidental to Annika’s bumbling around in her personal life. They are resolved with last minute light bulb moments that makes Midsomer look serious.

Any jeopardy is resolved in 30 seconds. The car exploding when Annika was locked in the boot. The boat explosion when Michael was locked inside. Morgan locked in with the fake driving instructor.

The first series was ok but the second felt laboured.

Morgan now knows who her father is and everyone seems fine with it. Jake moves in to the boat house. We assume Blair had her baby. Sprinter Tyrone gets a promotion and is replaced by leather biker chick Harper. Everybody is super cool and efficent but there’s little attempt to develop any of their characters. Police procedure is virtually non existent. Nobody is ever read their rights. No PACE clock ticks.

I think it had run its course. Was it even a cliffhanger? Annika seemed to have no love for her father. She’d have him extradited and charged and that would be the end of it. Another classic tale from literature.

I’m inclined to agree with the The Telegraph which described the series as "disappointingly pedestrian", recommending that "The show needs to focus less on the clever conceits and more on the plots”.

We've really enjoyed Annika too and are surprised and disappointed that it will not be continued.
It's been good to see a detective series that is so different to the norm, also to have Annika talking to the camera. I imagine that they'll spend the money saved on some awful celebrity-laden series, as usual - I only wish we could withold our licence fee if there is nothing on BBC channels that we want to watch.

Loved both series and have re watched . They should get rid of the rubbish so called reality TV and have more dramas. Love how Annika talked to the camera . There are a lot of really good dramas on U drama channel .

Know idea why this was cancelled and on a cliff hanger. Surely, respect for viewers should allow them to make the second installment of this and let us see it.

I’d just discovered and binge watched all available episodes and am now so disappointed that it’s been left in the air like this with no answers forthcoming in a new series. Downright mean I’d say!

I enjoyed this very much, too. I was introduced to it via a series of podcasts/ short plays on the radio and have been a fan ever since.
Disappointing to hear that there will be no more.

Always the same isn’t it, we are left biting our nails wondering what’s going to happen next now thst Annika has spilt the beans about ‘who is the daddy’…..and the visit by her very strange father and the mystery of the black liquorice.
Will we ever know the reason why producers of these very excellent series do this.
Like our Australian poster I am annoyed, and frustrated to say the least, and no I don’t think,we can do anything about it.
I have loved this quirky and very interesting series particularly Annikas asides to the camera, very different to so much of the rubbish we have to endure

Hi All,
I’m from Australia. We have just finished watching both Seasons of ‘Annika’ with the brilliant Nicola Walker for the 2nd time. I have just read that they will not be making a Season 3 and I wanted to voice my protest about that and wonder if others feel the same?
Season 2 ended with a cliffhanger that would suggest that Annika’s father came to Scotland for nefarious reasons. It was a terrible way the leave viewers hanging indefinitely.
I’m unsure how things work in the UK, I doubt writing to the producers will make any difference.
I think I just wanted to say how disappointed I am that this show ended this way.
Thank you.
