It's a good show, a change from dreary news, tedious soaps and daft 'reality' piffle.

BUT -- not that many of the finished pics are that good a likeness, really, though at least 2 of the judges aren't always looking for that!

I am pleased to say I have picked the winner two weeks in a row.

Strange how nobody in one group managed to capture a good likeness of Si King. One looked like Kenny Rogers, another an older Paul Young and a graphical depiction of Santa Claus.

The 16 year old was very impressive.

I loved the portrait done by the sixteen year old boy.

I did too. A great talent and came over as a lovely boy.

I'm a bit basic when it comes to portraiture, I want the portrait to look like the subject and I didn't think any of them really captured the Hairy Biker chap's likeness, whereas the rugby player was good in all 3. But then it was a painting of the author that won which I thought was a bit stylised.

Art is so subjective - I rarely agree with the judges.

I have just watched the second episode and this time I didn't agree with the judges' choice. Again, some very talented artists and of course the lovely Stephen.

I usually watch this but just didn’t get around to it this last week, I never agree with the judges 😁 and in the portrait or the landscape challenge I know if I pick the worst one it will win.Sounds like it was different this time.

I can't draw or paint to save my life but I enjoy watching this. I like to see the 3 different end products on the same sitter. Fascinating how an artist sees something different to the other painters.

I always watch it, although I prefer Landscape Artist Of The Year because Portraits aren't my thing. In fact I never have any human figures in my paintings, not even tiny ones in the distance, The first set of artists were all very good so hopefully we can look forward to a really good series.

I agree with MayBee70 that the Jane Goodall portrait was wonderful. They seemed to have such a good time together while she was working on it.

I’m secretly in love with Stephen Mangan…

My nephew got to the finals a few years back. Tommy Golunski.. amazing artist. He loved every minute of it. Super proud of him

I’m so relieved that the Jane Goodall portrait from a couple of years ago was absolutely fabulous and did her justice. Although some of the recent rather controversial ones have grown on me. I do think that they choose someone that they think will have a rapport with the sitter.

Me too!

Ditto. I absolutely agreed with the judges choices, first time ever.

Don't forget.

I missed half of it yesterday so I'll rewatch.

I think this may be the first time I’ve agreed with all the judges choices.

Yes, I watched the first episode today. I much prefer the Portrait to the Landscape programs.

MayBee70 Wed 01-Oct-25 21:10:55

It’s repeated tomorrow at 7pm.

Oh, I'm jealous. We tend to get the broadcast about a year later over here. Perhaps I can find last year's on the TV.

Parsley3 Wed 01-Oct-25 20:33:15

I watched it. There was a very good set of artists in this episode and i agreed with the judges choice.
