Lucy Letby - Murder or Mistake?

Those poor parents must feel as if their wounds are being reopened every time there's something in the media .

I wish there was less attention on Letby and more on her victims. She was found guilty and refused right to appeal. Some people are like a dog at a bone with this.

I have followed the case with interest from the outset.

What is clear to me is that the initial trial was mis-handled and the evidence presented by Dr Dewi Evans was deeply flawed. That is not to say Lucy Letby is innocent but the background of a failing neo-natal department and the ever readiness of the NHS to find scapegoats make some of the evidence questionable to say the least.

I admit that I did not see the programme so I can't comment specifically on the content.

The lasting trauma of having to re-live having lost a baby and not knowing if your baby was murdered and could have been saved must be very difficult for the parents to bear.

I also found this rather lacking in clarity but took it that their child survived when otherwise they fear it might not have done due to being in Letby's care. The baby was transferred out elsewhere, although I found the parents dwelling on this and even discussing the matter with their child very strange.
There is something very strange about the whole thing to me.

As a former neonatal nurse I have taken an interest from the start, and still think Letby is guilty because the evidence is overwhelming.

However, what is obvious to me is that this is such a specialised area of medicine that so called 'experts' will expound their theories which those with less knowledge will find it hard to contradict. It seems lots of egos were brought into play from people very far removed from the complex situation, and given more credibility than maybe they should have.

In all this we have to remember that vulnerable babies who would otherwise be alive today, died and the parents have had to deal with an unbearable load of suffering because of this.

I completely understand why none of them were featured in this documentary- but my sympathies will always lie with them.
