I may have found a way to enjoy this show.
Record it so it isnāt interrupted by 12 minutes of advertising breaks. Make a cup of tea and leave the regular irritations in the kitchen: Tomās silly outfits, Di and Sheilaās untidy hair, clothes and lacklustre comments. Accept that finding āBritainās Best Knitterā is just a slogan. Some of the contestants arenāt very good at knitting and are even poorer at crochet.
I enjoyed yesterdayās show more than the first two weeks although I did find myself wondering why most chose to crochet the swimwear when itās far easier to get smooth shaping around the bodyās curvy bits with short row knitting.
The models were top competitive swimmers. Making bikinis was a mistake imo. Crocheting four triangles in twelve hours isnāt exactly challenging. The best designs by far were from Lydia and Ailsa who made swimsuits. I would have designed something with a racer back, as serious swimwear has.
As for the deckchair challenge, sag was always going to be an issue. Brave but also foolish of Holger and Isaac to crochet the deckchair in thin yarn. Good āchipsā design but no strength. Aisla pulled Simon through.
Too many contestants over-relied on surface embellishment (rather than integral colourwork) which would make fabric lumpy to wear and sit on. Does anyone really want dangling fuchsia on a bikini, raised letters on their bottom or lumpy bits at their back when they sit on a deckchair wearing very little?
Right decision over winner and loser this week.
Good to see Janie Crowfoot. Iāve made several of her blanket designs: Lily Pond, Fridaās Flowers, Mystical Lanterns and Persian Tiles.
