Ch 4 Game of Wool. Britain’s Best Knitter

Lydia's figure of Di made me laugh. Spot on, especially the hair and 'washing line' adornment she sported recently. Looked like Di had a pink ring doughnut on her head tonight. Either that or she is in the process of making a large pompom and stuck it on her head until she has time to finish it.
Worthy winner. Consistently good every week.

Well that’s it! Not sure if there will be another series.

All 3 hats were really good but, as usual the judges just had to pick faults with them.

I have been watching some old Kirstie Christmas programmes and last week one was the Christmas jumper challenge.

The judge was called Erica Knight. I think that was her name. She was brilliant and inspiring. A total contrast to the two sloppy dishevelled women on this programme.

My point is that they are actually (I assumed) there for their design skill - not their looks, grooming or clothes choices.

But surely people with design skill should display that in the clothes they themselves wear?

They need some lessons in blocking, for a start.

Because they are supposed to inspire us, not put us off 😀

Nothing they have worn so far has inspired me to take up my knitting needles again.

The best 3 knitters in the final and I don't mind who wins. If this programme gets a second series it needs a drastic overhaul on presenter and knitting challenges.

Holgar’s bag was attractive, but he lined it with fabric so of course it wouldn’t sag. The weight was held by the fabric.
Poor Isaac, he really wasn’t a time keeper.

I think this lacked a strong anchor. A skilled presented might have gently mocked the silliness of this and made it watchable.

The knitters have come on so much. Sorry to see Isaac leave. Holger’s bag was really good but in the challenge where he was paired with Lydia he took over as usual but pleased to see she stood her ground. Shame that Ailsa seems to have gone off the boil now because she started really well.

The judges however just look awful especially as they are knitwear designers. The black piece of knitting draped around one of them was ugly. The other judge looks like she never washes or brushes her hair, just scoops it up and sticks something daft in it! Her knitwear was nothing special either and her trousers were all crumpled up and looked a mess.

They will have to make some changes to this show if there's a second series. I thought it would be the yarn version of Sewing Bee but it hasn't been very inspiring. I actually liked Tom as presenter but some of the tasks were silly and the judges might know their stuff but they don't communicate that to the viewers.

The judges may be well respected in knitting circles but they are hopeless judges. Their criticisms are too subjective. Holger’s necklace could never have been worn comfortably. If there is another series there need to be new, younger, more vibrant judges. Glad Lydia got the baaadge but Simon should have got it last week.

The Knit and natter groups I attend, all heartily dislike this show. A great opportunity missed. Should have been recruiting people to knitting, but this show will actually put of any who may be considering. How can it be 'Knitter of the Year', when so much of it has been crochet?? These are two different crafts.

Why are the judges so old? And why cannot they sort out their hair do's a little better - and as for the knitting needles in the hair........words fail me.

Would have so loved to see good quality knitting with appropriate yarns and needle sizes. At a recent xmas craft fayre, we had a wonderful knitted nativity scene, 3 kings, shepherds, Mum & Dad, baby in cradle, sheep. Absolutely gorgeous, laid it caught everyone's eye. All made by a lady who had spent the last year fighting cancer, unable to go out much, she passed her time with making things like this. We raffled it, and the winner then donated it to a local Care Home, where it will be in place of honour in their lounge. That is the sort of knitting we should have been seeing on this programme.

I think this programme is becoming a parody of itself. It appears to me that the judges are unpleasantly harsh in order to justify their own superior talents. I’m sure there’s a name for this type of personality.
It would be better if the criticism showed how to put the mistakes right. Perhaps the judges could produce examples of perfection.

I don't like how the two women wander round, looking at what the contestants are attempting todo then undermine them and give them doubts. Not kind.
Especially when one of them needs a bit of guidance on hairstyles.

The judges on this programme do wear some weird outfits but then other judges on similar programmes do too. Esme Young on Great British Sewing Bee often wears unusual clothes and necklaces, Prue Leith on Bake-Off is a kaleidoscope with her outfits and jewellery. On the same programme, Noel Feilding loves his wacky jumpers. Maybe those in the arty, crafty world like to dress this way to make a statement, perhaps.

Keith Brymer-Jones cries over pottery. It shows a inner passion which can't be all bad. The judges are very well regarded in the world of wool.
I will be surprised if a second series is made unless there are some drastic changes.

What on earth are those ridiculous women doing on this programme ? Last night one of them had knitting with needles stuck in her head / hair ? .... and one of them sobs when she sees perfect knitting ?

They are a ridiculous pair for a knitting show ...

I was sorry to see Simon go. He brings a bit of humour and seems a kind man - look how he tried to calm down Lydia. I noticed Tom Daley was nowhere to be seen at this point although often the celebrity presenters do comfort those who are in a state.
I thought the judges were harsh about his necklace too and seemed to have missed the point about the design.

So did I! It would look lovely in the summer.

Simon got a great dig in at Holger. Sorry to see him go actually because for a beginner he did really well.

What on earth was Di Gilpin wearing on her head last night? I don't particularly mind the knitting needles but this looked like a line of washing. Very strange.
I was pleased Lydia won the baaadge as best knitter despite her struggles with the lace knitting. It was time for Simon to go but I wouldn't blame him if he feels disgruntles about last week.
Just 4 left. Isaac is a dark horse with his lace panel easily beating both Ailsa and Holger.
