On Women’s Hour today they asked for listeners to text in saying TV shows they watched and loved from many years ago.

Suddenly Kenny Everett jumped into my mind. He used to do a sketch where he was presenting a pretend DIY Show. It was manic, over the top and he was covered in blood a lot of the time or wearing a sling. My son and I used to roll around with laughter. He often finished the show in drag and was sitting in a large chair throwing one leg over the other saying ‘everything is in the best possible taste’. Absolutely hilarious. I don’t think it would be thought appropriate now.

What were your favourite Shows ?

I used to enjoy most of the mentioned shows, especially 'The Good Life', George and Mildred, and Keeping up Appearances. Hyacinth Bouquet was an iconic characters, like so many others from days gone by.

Faulty Towers; Allo,Allo, The two Ronnies.

Dizzy Denise I thought The Singing Ringing Tree was really creepy. Enjoyed Howards Way at the time but it hasn't aged well. Loved the Forsyte Saga and Poldark.

The Saint, Til Death do us part, and my favourite of all time comedian Dave Allen. Everything is so politically correct now nothing is actually funny IMO

No one mentioned the Two Ronnies? (Four candles.....) 😂

Deepat Sun 09-Nov-25 14:29:54

‘That was the week, that was ‘ with David Frost, Bernard Levin, Millicent Martin, Lance Percival, Roy Kinnear, Willie Rushton.
It was the start of the satire boom and unmissable.

Also never missed ‘Just Good Friends’ and ‘To the Manor Born’.

It Ain’t Half Hot Mum,

I remember Callan with Edward Woodward. And his side kick ' lonely '
I always thought how sad the music was and the bare light bulb swinging to and fro,
I must have been about 10

I decided to hitch to London one day but my boyfriend at the time who had dropped me off by the motorway drove back, opened the car door, told me to get back in and we were together for the next 30 years. He did have a job in London soon after, though. We stayed there for one week then one night after work we looked at each other and both said ‘ let’s go back home’. Which we did.

I loved Take 3 Girls and desperately wanted to live with them when I left school!

The Clothes Show was another favourite of mine.

You can watch it on utube. I wanted to move to London because of it!
