Very sentimental show tonight. Maybe I've watched it for too many years and I'm becoming cynical.

There was a younger woman presenting, she wore a strange black dress —getup— it almost prevented her from using the mic to speak to a guest because she couldn’t get the thing near her face.
Most bizarre and it made her look daft.
Why do women do this I wonder ? In front of millions of viewers. Does no one advise them. …or do celebs get paid for wearing some designer monstrosity?

WithNobsOnIt Sat 20-Dec-25 14:56:31

Oh No.

Not again. Isn't it about time this program bit the dust?

Full.of self congratulatory, preening types and their cronies.

Really old fashioned and out of touch . Also must cost a fortune to make.

I wanted to watch and vote for Lando but lost interest after ten minutes.

TiggyW

Too many lesbian footballers. I do think Rory McIlroy was worthy of the title. 👍

What? What's wrong with lesbian footballers?

GrannyGravy13 Sat 20-Dec-25 15:57:57

TiggyW

At least the lesbian footballers win international trophies, something the men have failed to do since 1966 🤦‍♀️

Georgesgran Sat 20-Dec-25 16:26:23

I’m laughing at Tiggy’s comments, while shaking my head at the same time!
Want to expand further - or do you want sports limited to heterosexual men and women only?
As GG13 says the lionesses brought home the silver!

LOUISA1523 Sat 20-Dec-25 16:35:47

The southport dads won the Helen rollason award

MayBee70 Sat 20-Dec-25 16:50:52

I think it should be renamed the sports highest achievers of the year.

NotAGran55 Sat 20-Dec-25 17:45:01

What has their sexuality got to do with anything TiggyW ?
Please would you explain.

Jcar Sat 20-Dec-25 18:19:31

I think she is referring to the box ticking that seems to be obligatory on every TV programme and advert these days

LaTroisette Sat 20-Dec-25 18:52:29

Gary Lineker

Peaseblossom Sat 20-Dec-25 21:13:22

I never watch it, but why were there three women presenters? Why not male and female? Likewise football commentators. Men prefer male commentators who normally have more experience of the game.

Pilgrimandrew Sat 20-Dec-25 21:46:53

Apparently, the BBC are being investigated for allowing a white, straight male, with no obvious disabilities or mental health issues to win Spoty

Mel1967 Sat 20-Dec-25 22:02:28

The right person won 🏌️‍♀️

Mojack26 Sat 20-Dec-25 23:25:57

Agree.. I voted for Rory and the Ryder Cup team! Sick of hearing about The Lionesses and The Roses...yes they done well but give it a rest. I do agre about Serena Weigman? though she is an excellent coach!

DrWatson Sun 21-Dec-25 03:01:36

For TiggyW and that disgusting "lesbian footballers" comment -- tell us where you live, and we'll find a course for you, how to try and be a reasonable human being in 2026?

And how do YOU know they're all "lesbian"? If you're THAT clairvoyant, write us the Xmas & New Year lottery numbers?!

DrWatson Sun 21-Dec-25 03:14:02

For poor GranmarDerby, moved to comment, but not paying sufficient attention to the show to know who she was, or why she was there. THAT was Keely Hodgkinson, merely the 800m Olympic champion, and last year's trophy winner, there to present it to this year's winner.

You didn't like her dress? I'm sure she's desperately upset. Maybe she doesn't have much experience of presenting awards or on a TV show, I gather it takes a bit of getting used to? Or possibly it was a late decision to get her to do the job, hard to tell from here in viewer-land.

The show is one of the longest running on TV, masses of tradition, and for sporty types, I hear it's a nice round-up of the year's sporting achievements. The BBC charter means it has to try and put on a huge array of diverse programming, so there's always scope for folk to moan that there's something on that they don't like. Well, get a book, listen to the radio, or change channel, several hundred to choose from these days! I never watch it for more than a couple of minutes ("oh, that time of year again"??), and sometimes none. But I see no point in moaning about it, doubtless sports fans don't want to see what I like?!

Chardy Sun 21-Dec-25 08:39:50

Absolutely, Chardy

We did miss seeing it this year as we were out but I'm glad Rory McIlroy won. 🏆

This show honours those who have actually achieved something great, it's not luvvies patting themselves on the back and gushing tearfully about each other.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sun 21-Dec-25 09:56:37

I’m happy Rory won too. ⛳️
Well deserved.
