There’s a place in Wyoming called Ten Sleep so I always thought it came from the indigenous Americans. That puts a different slant on it for me, I reminds me of being there.

I first heard the expression from my cousin in Canada going on 20 years ago, it didn't resonate with me at all at the time. Now it's been acquired here and is pretty commonplace. Yes I'm with you Sparklefizz sounds twee at best, babyish at worst.

I am fed up with hearing on the radio and TV how many "sleeps" it is until Christmas or whatever. We are not toddlers! We don't need it described as "sleeps". Grrr! Two days until Christmas, one day until Christmas .... fine!
