The scan scene was interesting as I had forgotten till then that I was the first person to have a scan in our local hospital and the press were there. My stomach was in the paper.

I didn't have an ultrasound scan in the 1970s but did in the 1980s. This episode was set in the early 1970s, I think, so I was surprised.

Men just weren't allowed in. I suppose having babies was a woman's department.

I cried and got upset so left the room. My Mum adored the hymn Abide With Me and seeing Sister Monica Joan fading away reminded me of her final few days.

My son asked why Cyril was not allowed in to see the scan but I missed that bit.

OMG, not many of the episodes made me cry, but that one had everything. The acting was excellent, everyone one of them made their parts individual. Then the music, yes, Abide with me and Faurés Requiem.

I hope those two spinsters set up their Miss Demeanours enterprise!

Accirding to mumsnet the Radio Times says the prequel is going to be around Christmas time. There's also a film and a new series.

So tonight we are in 1971. I was just about leaving school but no young lad would have worn that big overcoat that Timothy is wearing and older ladies weren’t wearing stuff like Mrs Buckle or Miss Higgins.

I don’t think the language that Beryl and Geoffrey use is right for that time either.

In my experience they did dress like that. My Nan was dressing like Violet into the 1980s!

I don't remember my MIL dressing any differently than that for years after that date.
My DM did break out and buy a trouser suit once.

His awful gurning grins and weird facial expressions make him look like the sort of doctor you would see only as a last resort, if there was no one else available. (Of course, thereisonly him, he has the monopoly).

Yes, Geoffrey and Beryl used a phrase (can’t remember what it was) that wasn’t around in 1971, I’m sure.

I also think Beryl is menopausal.

Timothy (Dr Turner Junior) still looks a bit wide eyed and naive somehow.

Also don’t think Beryl would be launching into bright red lipstick, manicures, hair do’s, so soon after leaving the convent, even under Trixie’s expert tutelage.

She looked like a ventriloquist dummy 😂

In the 70’s my Mum only wore a hat to church. But my gran always wore one of her many dressy hats going out. If she visited someone’s home she removed her coat but her hat remained firmly in place secured by a hat pin.

My aunts were definitely dressed like Violet, my mum was a little more daring and had her skirts about 1 inch above her knee. If you think the accents are posh watch something like Face the Music or plays from that time. The way the men talk to the women is extraordinarily
